The freebie that Liverpool can’t afford to miss?

|

Keisuke HondaKeisuke Honda is a player whose name has appeared in conjunction with English clubs for a rather long time. Some would say that it’s about time that he finally made his move to English shores.

Liverpool are coming off the back of one of their best performances of the season, though it’s clear that Brendan Rodgers’ side could do with some strengthening.

Yes, the Reds have improved since the season has impressed, but there’s just no hiding the faults within this Liverpool club. For a start, the purchase of Joe Allen is one that really hasn’t come off. Then there’s the aging Steven Gerrard. Who will replace the great man once his legs finally give out?

Does Brendan has a contingency plan?

My feeling is that Liverpool need a player that they can build around for the next 5-6 years. I can’t see anybody in the Reds midfield that is currently deserving of that role (I think it’s too early to call judgement on Coutinho, though he does look pretty good).

CSKA Moscow’s ace midfielder, Keisuke Honda could be that man. According to The Metro, Liverpool are looking to tie up a pre-contract move for the versatile Japanese International. Now that’s forward planning!

CSKA Moscow’s top brass have virtually admitted that the player’s future lies elsewhere. Their director Roman Babaev has said:

‘We tried to extend his contract, but we can’t force him. It is up to him what happens next.’

Liverpool are thought to have been monitoring the situation and are now ready to make a move for the player. Yes, he’s not your typical Brendan Rodger’s purchase, but given his ability and the fact that he’d be a total freebie, it looks like too good an opportunity to pass up.

Honda is a goal-scoring midfield who now seems to be entering his peak. He’s scored 9 goals in 22 matches this season and has impressed with his pace, technical ability and his direct running.

It strikes me that Liverpool are being extremely smart here. Players of Honda’s talent are very hard to come by and they usually cost clubs an absolute fortune. Honda would add dynamism, energy and cut and thrust to the Reds midfield. He’d also add something that Liverpool could use: goals.

That, for me, would make him an extremely good addition to the squad.

What’s your take? Should Liverpool look to wrap up a deal for Keisuke Honda?
