The £22m striker that Arsenal can’t afford to miss out on:

|

Gonzalo HiguainWhatever happens over the course of the rest of the season, one thing’s for sure: Arsenal’s summer priority will be to bring in a world-class striking talent.

Arsene Wenger has experimented with lacklustre Ligue 1 talent (Olivier Giroud and Marouane Chamakh) for too long.

Giroud, for all his strength on the ball, doesn’t seem to be able to carry it forward and doesn’t have the technical ability to work his way through tight Premier League defences.

For some reason, Wenger doesn’t trust his recent Germanic recruit, Lukas Podolski. If he gets a start at all, it’s out on the left wing. You’d think, given Arsenal’s pressing need, that Wenger would try him through the middle, but the trust just isn’t there.

Then there’s Theo Walcott, whose services appear to be better used out on the wing.

This all amounts to a pressing need for Arsenal to bring in a centre-forward worthy of following in Robin Van Persie’s footsteps. Of course, this is a difficult challenge for Arsene Wenger.

RVP has worked his way up and gradually asserted himself as one of the best strikers in world football (don’t let his current ‘slump’ fool you!). It’ll take a real talent to replace him.

This brings me to an article courtesy of The Mirror, which claims that Real Madrid’s super striker, Gonzalo Higuain fancies a move to the Premier League and that Arsenal (along with Tottenham) are interested in acquiring his services.

The ex-River Plate striker has now fallen behind Karim Benzema in the pecking order (though in truth, the two of them appear to go in and out of fashion at the Bernabeu) and it’s thought that it will take a figure of around £22m to convince Jose Mourinho to sell.

The 25-year-old striker is a natural goalscorer, who uses his athleticism and drive to get in dangerous positions and tuck the ball away. Yes, he’s not been ‘great’ this season, (10 goals in 29 games) but last year he scored 26 in 54 and the year before that, 13 in 25.

Suffice to say, he’s a player who takes his chances more often than not. In that respect, he’d be a fine signing for Arsenal, who usually create a lot of chances for their forwards.

Higuain is the kind of player who won’t like sitting on a bench, even if it’s at Real Madrid. A move to the Emirates may end up being just his cup of tea.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal try to wrap up a deal for Gonzalo Higuain?

I think that its far more likey that he doesn’t trust Gervinho as opposed to Podolski. Pod has shown he’s multi versatile whereas our LW’s- Gerv+Arsh have shown that they’re not.

  • Goodluck says:

the best are not gotten at 10m or 15m pounce,so go after the likes of Edison Cavanni,Mario Gomez etc as long as arsenal keep operating the law of failure they will keep failing, until arsenal start spending they are not qualify to lift any trophy.

  • Erhus says:

He can mak d defference,Heguain is a better player dan giround, poldo and gervih.
I tink wenger shud brake d bank to sign him.

  • Soccerisma says:

Higuain is still a realistic option for Arsenal than talking about 50m+ Falcao,

Higuain is not much mobile but still a good finisher who can finish the ones Gunners waste nowadays
