Christian EriksenThis January, Tottenham brought forward a proposed summer deal for Lewis Holtby. They signed the German wonderkid for a small fee and he’s settled in nicely at White Hart Lane.

Whilst rugged, physical players like Scott Parker, Sandro and Dembele don’t lack in technical ability (especially Dembele), they tend to be deployed in the ‘enforcer role’. This means they are tasked with patrolling the midfield, breaking up play and passing the ball to midfielders like Lewis Holtby – those tasked with the creative onus of the team.

Spur’s main priority this summer will be signing a striker, there’s no getting past that. But I can’t help but hope that Andre Villas-Boas also looks to add a little more ingenuity to his midfield. Whilst Holtby looks like one for the future, I’d argue that there’s further work to be done in this department.

Much of Tottenham’s transfer dealings will depend on where the club finishes in the Premier League. Should Spurs grab a top four slot, they’ll be able to attract top talent. Should they fall short, they may have to look elsewhere.

This brings me to the Guardian Series claim that Ajax’s ace young playmaker, Christian Eriksen will make a move to White Hart Lane this summer – providing the club qualifies for Champions League football.

He’s a player who has been linked to English clubs for over a year now. He seems to have been on the verge of a move to a top club since time immemorial. Liverpool, Arsenal and Inter Milan are also thought to be interested.

Perhaps this isn’t all that surprising. The Danish midfielder is one of European football’s premier young talents. His range of passing, his speed of thought and his ability to by space is remarkable considering his age. There’s every chance that he could become a household name over the next three or so years.

Eriksen has refused to sign a new deal with Ajax and this has helped rumours to spread quickly. Given his contract situation, Tottenham could snap up the Dane for only a fraction of his worth. A price-tag of £12m has been mooted and this would be a bargain for a player with such potential.

Whether or not Tottenham end up in the top four, I can only hope that AVB pursues this one.

What’s your take? Should Tottenham look to seal a deal for Christian Eriksen?

I sure Levy is very happy with Vertonghen’s input this season. Hopefully he’ll want more of that Ajax magic and work hard to pull off this deal and hopefully the Vertonghen link is a strong factor for Eriksen . Hopefully.

Unfortunately I no longer have any faith in what Levy will do. I feel completely cheated out of better league positions thanks to Levy’s lack of ambition in the transfer windows. He may very well be an astute businessman but he does not cut it in the transfer business. I don’t want to hear that we haven’t the funds because that is rubbish. Levy’s net spend over the last five windows is very little and no real money has been invested in the team. I always loved the transfer windows to see what Spurs would pull off but now I dread them and their continual feelings of being let down by Levy especially the last window. I was all geared up for a top striker to come in especially Dalmiao only for it all to come to nothing once again with Levy not quite offering enough. I am beginning to believe it is all a smokescreen now so that Levy looks like he is in action and really trying to bring these type of players in when really he has no intention of doing so and he keeps getting away with it. Now I find it’s best just not to pay anymore attention to the windows to avoid disappointment. Until Levy gives up his role as the main man in the transfer windows I fear for Spurs. I also feel Levy badly let AVB down in the last window because we all knew AVB had his heart set on bringing Moutinho in plus Dalmiao but for the sake of a couple of million on each player Levy ballsed up both deals and that is why I really beieve he had no real intention of getting them. The guy has no real heart it’s all business as far as he is concerned but it is all short-sighted plus that is also why we have so many players that don’t really feature in our plans still collecting wages rather than be sold becuase of Levy’s over valuation of those players…how dumb is that?

Eriksen is a quality young player that we should sign ASAP, to add to our growing squad of quality players

Levy for sure is about building a club a profitable club should we make 3rd or 4th a world class striker is what he will bring think Dalmiao will be a top buy great first touch strong in air and let’s forget that that samba flair… Coys

He looks really talented and obviously a useful addition. However given the limited budget we will undoubtedly have to spend and the need for at least 1 striker, a left winger and a left back I’m not so sure we will have any cash left for this position. I’m not convinced by holtby but I reckon cm is the position he is being groomed for. Hopefully Im wrong though.
