Despite all the negotiations, Arsenal must surely hold a trump card in this transfer battle:

|

Christian BentekeWhilst he’ll likely be forgotten in many of the ‘Bargain of the season’ round-ups, thanks to Aston Villa’s poor showings this year, it’s easy to see how good Christian Benteke is. He’s been an integral part of Villa’s relegation battle and may well have enough in the locker to keep them up.

It takes a genuine talent to knock Premier League mainstay Darren Bent out of your side and Benteke certainly falls into that category. He looks like a top quality, all-round striker. He’s great with the ball at his feet, has the confidence to run at defenders and he’s also dominant in the air.

He’s something of a lethal force and best of all, he’s a natural goal-scorer. How else can you account for the fact that at just 22-years-old, he has scored 15 times for a club that is struggling to put more than two passes together. Villa are a shambles, but Benteke has managed to keep them going.

He’s certainly yet to hit his peak. His best years are still ahead of him and there’s no telling just how good he’s going to get.

Naturally, there are plenty of suitors lining up, hoping to take the player off of Paul Lambert’s hands. The Daily Mirror claim that Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester City and Liverpool are all in the market for his signature and will look to make a deal happen in the summer. A bidding frenzy may well erupt when the transfer window re-opens.

Despite his sides’ poor showing this season, Paul Lambert isn’t stupid. He’s looking to give him a pay-rise at Aston Villa to avoid his head getting turned by other clubs. His current deal sees him pick up £20k-a-week and it’s claimed that Villa are willing to double this to help keep him at the club.

Still, would this be enough to stop the approaches of clubs like Arsenal, who are in desperate need of another striker? Arsenal can afford to pay the forward anything that Villa can afford to play and offer the potential for trophies and titles (rather than relegation scraps).

If a club like the Gunners came knocking, you get the feeling that Benteke would find it hard to resist their approaches.

And if Villa go down this season, they’ll likely find it impossible to keep hold of the big Belgium. Either way, Aston Villa are set for a battle this summer and Arsenal could be the ones to prophet.

What’s your take? Would Christian Benteke be a good addition for Arsenal?

Can Arsenal afford him or willing to pay the fee to beat off competition ? no

Arsenal can offer titles and trophies ? of what kind because I’m sure Arsenal haven’t won anything for the last 8 years. I’m sure Man City would be a much better prospect or even Spurs if they can hold onto Bale.

arsenal wouldn’t offer enough even to speak with the boy. I accept he’s too good for villa, arsenal fans need to accept he’s too good, or at least too expensive, for them
