Could Arsenal be about to make a £12m saving on this world-class striker?

Roberto SoldadoArsenal aren’t a club that are prone to throwing money at problems. But given their decline over the last half-decade, splashing a little cash may be the only viable option.

Manchester United, Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool, heck, even Tottenham have been spending like bandits over the last few seasons. Whilst Arsenal haven’t exactly been frugal, you get the feeling that they haven’t been making the investment necessary in the squad to keep up with the rest of the Premier League’s top brass.

This is particularly true when you consider the players that have left the club and the money they’ve brought in.

As a result, Arsenal fans have had to sit back and watch other clubs enjoy success, whilst they bleat on about ‘not buying the League’. I don’t think that provides Gunners with as much solace as they make out.

I’m sure that fans would love to see Arsene Wenger invest properly in the squad. To target quality players and make this team competitive again. A summer of smart, aggressive spending could catapult Arsenal back to the top of the game.

They’ve certainly been linked to a wealth of talent. The latest of which, is Valencia’s goal-machine, Roberto Soldado. How the Gunners could use a striker of his craft and ingenuity in front of goal.

CaughtOffside claim that the Spanish striker would have cost around £20m last summer (a figure that would have likely sent Arsenal scarpering), but thanks to Valencia’s financial issues, could go for just £8m this summer. If that’s the case, I’m surprised that there aren’t a hoard of clubs hovering over the player, ready to swoop as soon as his club gives the signal.

£8m for a player of his qualtiy would be an absolute steal – a £12m saving. The Spanish striker is amongst the most deadly strikers in Europe. He has maintained a consistent goal scoring record and has already found the back of the net 14 times in 26 games this season. That’s some pedigree.

He’s also found some traction in the Spanish national side, despite the high level of competition prevalent in that squad. You get the feeling that he’d fit in nicely in the Premier League. He certainly has the fitness, the physique and the drive to make it.

And given Arsenal’s pressing need, this could be a match made in heaven.

What’s your take? Would you like to see Roberto Soldado playing his football at the Emirates?

If Wenger goes for cheaper buys he risks dragging Arsenal further into decline. Assuming they qualify for the cl without the right investment as opposed to cheap imports, the risk is always there. Class is permanent.Btw,without the wc players,Wenger can forget about winning the cl ,let alone the epl.

I have been saying that all season . Though all the signings has not come off , I believe we have the foundation to forge ahead with the additional momey. No matter what the board say we did not previously have money to spend.
Next season we may not win the league but we will be there to fight for it . Up the arsenal

one question;do you always get quality when you spend huge amounts on players? don’t we have examples in michu, carzola as we do in carroll, torres. we should be concerned about the quality of a player not how much is he worth. the question should be will soldado add the needed quality and not ‘oh he will cost 8mil,therefore he is not needed’.

  • Malaysian gunner says:

The problem with buying cheap players is they become aproblem. Just imagine the amount of time Wenger has wated on his project y.As said if the gunners had abetter keeper than Almunia or the current ones,Arsenal could have won atrophy or two. Instead they are fighting for cl qualification.
If Wenger doesn’t go for the quality guys who can make an immediate difference,he shd go
