Why Arsenal should strike now before this £25m transfer target’s price-tag rises:

|

Stevan JoveticIn 2008, Fiorentina signed Stevan Jovetic, a talented, but not all that well known Montenegrin striker from Partizan. He cost the Serie A side just £8m. Now, according to Tuttosport, he could end up costing any new suitors £40m.

His increased evaluation only signposts his increased quality and his ability to play at the top of the game. Sadly, his price-tag is also likely to ward off tight-fisted clubs like Arsenal, who had previously made Jovetic one of their key transfer targets.

According to the same source, Jovetic currently has a £25m release fee written into his contract, but Fiorentina are looking to increase this fee to £40m and tie him down to another long-term deal.

As things stand however, no deal has been agreed and it’s up to the player to commit to the Serie A side, or to start seriously weighing up his options.

Now it’s worth baring in mind that Wenger’s record transfer fee is £15m, £10m less than Jovetic’s current estimation. It’s asking a lot for Arsene to go after the Montenegrin, even with Arsenal’s commercial deals syphoning cash throughout the club.

Despite the concerns over price, there’s no doubting Jovetic’s quality. He’s lit up Serie A with his performances this season, working the space inbetween the midfield and the forward line with consumate ease. He looks supremely confident on the ball, rolling it into dangerous areas, skipping over challenges and steering it into the feet of other forwards.

He’s also pretty handy in front of goal and can be a real game changer. The 23-year-old looks mature beyond his years and certainly has a big future ahead of him.

He’d fit Arsenal’s style of play pretty nicely and provide a fine counter-balance to the lumbering presence of Olivier Giroud. The stocky Frenchman lacks in technical quality, isn’t the most graceful of players and isn’t all that clinical. Jovetic on the other hand, excels in all these areas.

The two players may work well together, with Giroud winning the ball in the air and battling it out with other defenders (and occassionally chipping in with goals) whilst Jovetic would provide the flare and the skill necessary to unlock tight defenses.

He’s a player that’s definitely worth £25m and will likely be worth £40m in the next two-or-three seasons. With that in mind, piquing the player’s interest and making a move before the club can tie him down, would likely be a good investment for Arsenal to make.

What’s your take? Should the Gunner’s seal a deal for this expensive Fiorentina forward?
