He could cost upto £30m, but that shouldn’t stop Manchester United:

|

Angel DiMariaWatching Manchester United this season, it’s hard to imagine improving this side. They’re a club with the quality and mentality to pull a result out of the bag whenever it’s needed. As a result, they’ll run away with the Premier League this season and stand a good chance in the Champions League.

But then you see the likes of Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Real Madrid strutting their stuff and you begin to wonder. Can Manchester United really compete with the world’s best?

Add to this, the fact that players like Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young and to some extent, Nani, have all disappointed this season and there’s ample reason to temper the optimism when it comes to Manchester United.

There’s plenty that can be done to improve this United side, and given that the three aforementioned players were wingers, I’d say this would be a good place to start.

Yes, Manchester United have already wrapped up a summer deal for Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha, but what about a player who can come in and do an immediate job?

With that in mind, it’s interesting to see that United have been strongly linked to Real Madrid’s ‘assist king’, Angel di Maria. The Mirror claim he is currently being offered around Europe’s top clubs and that Manchester United and Paris Saint Germain have both been sounded out.

It’s worth remembering, that Madrid’s deal for the former Benfica star set them back around £30m. If they are to sell, they’ll want to recoup the majority of that figure. Sir Alex, on the other hand, has never been shy of splashing cash when the right occasion arises.

But why is Di Maria’s agent putting him in the shop window? Truth be told, the Argentine isn’t having the greatest season at the Bernabeu and Real Madrid aren’t exactly the most patient club in the world.

In the two seasons preceding this one, Di Maria has been in majestic form, scoring goals and setting up the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Gonzalo Higuain with seeming ease.

He’s a remarkably effective player, who always seems to contribute something whenever he takes to the pitch. I’m sure he’d fit in well in the Premier League and would certainly be a big step up from the likes of Ashley Young.

What’s your take? Should Manchester United go after Angel Di Maria?
