What does this latest incident mean for Arsenal’s pursuit of David Villa?

|

Villa-SpainIt seems that David Villa can’t twitch a muscle on his svelte Spanish face without the English press picking up on it and analyzing what this means in relation to his proposed move to Arsenal football club.

Barcelona’s ace forward was benched for the La Liga’s Copa del Rey midweek outing against Malaga and this has created more speculation about his future (Source: The Mail).

I wouldn’t be surprised if Villa had grown impatient at the Nou Camp. We all know what he can offer and he must be thoroughly dissatisfied to have only started secen games this season.

But at 31-years-old and having suffered a major injury last season, he doesn’t seem to have a proper place in this Barca side. Given the lack of opportunities he’s getting, he may have to move on if he’s to properly rebuild his career and reputation.

Whilst Barca don’t seem to have a need for a striker of Villa’s ilk, Arsenal certainly do. Certain games this season have really highlighted the Gunners need for a top quality striker.

Olivier Giroud has his defenders, but he’s a somewhat limited player. He does the basics well, but he has little in the way of technical ability and isn’t particularly mobile.

Despite his advancing years, Villa still has fast feet, an agile mind and great positional sense. He always finds himself in space in great positions, and can work the ball into dangerous areas. His injury may have slowed him down, but he still has two-or-three years at the top of his game and could have a major impact in the Premier League.

How could Spain’s all-time top-scorer not fit in nicely in English football? He’s sure to do better than Fernando Torres.

The Mail claim that talks between Arsenal and Barcelona begun last week and that a deal could be finalized before next Thursday. If this is true, Arsenal fans will finally have a reason to be happy. He’s the kind of quality replacement that Arsene Wenger should have made for Robin Van Persie last summer.

Well, better late than never.

It will take a lot of money to persuade Barcelona to sell, but should they continue to not offer Villa game time, they’ll find their negotiatory powers slipping away. Let’s hope that Arsene Wenger finds the right time to make his move?

What’s your take? Can David Villa still produce the goods?

I think what you’re actually trying to say is that he is still adjusting to the premier league. Otherwise, the man is just under averaging .5 goals per game and is ability to hold up play, attacking runs along with his key passing has been beautiful.

If we do get Villa we still need a out and out centre forward, he plays on the left wing in Gervinho and Podolski spot, I still won’t be convinced we need to add Benteke to the mix and we’ll be fine, plus Diame what are we waiting for. Follow me @kyekye45 ill follow back #Gooner Family

No. He doesn’t. Villa is a CF. CF for Spain and for Valencia. He plays on the wing for Barca because they have other, younger players that can play CF.
But he IS a CF and an out n’ out striker.

wenger should get villa without wasting time,he can still be active with top football for at least 3 seasons.

  • kunle says:

arsenal fan should not expect any new player at all, wenger wil rather bring back loan player then buying with the way is talking that his team need a striker not a quility one,so player like joel cambell, afobe etc.

  • IF ARSENE WENGER CAN BY D VILLA,I WILL LOVE HIM WEARING RED AND WHITE JERSEY.

  • Demmy says:
