The TWO best transfer deals Arsenal could strike this January?

Despite recently handing West Ham a 5-1 thrashing, Arsenal fans still have the fidgets. They are impatiently waiting for Arsene Wenger to break the Gunners’ transfer record and bring in a player or two, who can give them the edge in the race for fourth place.

Unfortunately, because Arsene Wenger didn’t make the right additions in the summer, Arsenal are already well out of the title race. It’s now up to the Arsenal boss to bring the right recruits to help them overtake the likes of Tottenham, Everton and Chelsea.

It’s a big task for Arsenal, who have put themselves in a pretty bad position. Fortunately, Arsene seems to be working on something (he left a Press junket early recent because he had transfer ‘work to do’.)  Fans will be hoping that Wenger’s chasing the kind of ‘exceptional talent’ he says he’s looking for.

The two Arsenal links that have excited me most this January are as follows.

Arsenal are pursuing Borussia Dortmund’s £17.6m rated German defender Mats Hummels. (Source: The Express).

And the Gunners are looking to snap up Fiorentina’s dynamic forward, Stevan Jovetic. (Source: The Express).

The Gunners have been linked to a wide variety of players this transfer window, but I believe these are the best options in the areas that Arsenal need to look at.

Whilst the midfield is full to bursting with talent, the Gunners have often been a soft-touch at the back and lacked cut-and-thrust moving forward.

Mats Hummels is one of the best defenders in world football. The 24-year-old Dortmund defender has built up a massive reputation over the years and could be just what Arsenal need to add solidity to their back line and stop conceding in set-piece situations.

Stevan Jovetic is also an exciting player, but for a completely different reason. He’s the kind of player Arsene Wenger used to sign: somebody with pace, technical ability, and goal-scoring potential.

He can play across the attacking line but is probably best deployed as a secondary striker. He loves to take players on and is extremely confident in front of goal. Arsenal could use a player of his ilk.

They’d likely have to break their current transfer record to sign either player. As things stand, however, they’re in desperate need to do so. These might be the players that Arsenal build their future upon.

What’s your take? Who would you like to see Arsenal sign?
