Is £55m the right price for Gareth Bale?

Tottenham's Gareth Bale will face Real Madrid in the quarter finals of the Champion's LeagueI can only applaud the work that Daniel Levy and past Tottenham managers have done to keep their Welsh winger, Gareth Bale at the club. This is one of world football’s most exciting talents, a remarkably gifted young player, capable of turning a game on its head. Yet he’s playing for a team that has to make do without Champions League football most of the time.

He even went and signed a new four-year contract last summer. He clearly feels at home at Spurs and should he move on, he wants to make certain that Tottenham are properly remunerated. That’s a great attitude to have.

I don’t mean to be disparaging to Spurs fans. I would never suggest that Tottenham are a small club. Despite this, it does look like Bale is destined to move on to bigger and better things. Wouldn’t hit fit in nicely at a club like Barcelona, or Real Madrid?

According to The Express, Jose Mourinho is looking to bring Bale to the Bernabeu and is willing to pay £35m to make it happen.

£35m? Ha! In this transfer market, that’s pittance for a player like Bale. I hate to make this comparison, as I realize it’s been played out, but Liverpool spent £35m on Andy Carroll. To offer the same sum for Bale is insulting.

Bale is no flash in the pan. He’s a consistent talent who has performed at the very highest level (the San Siro, anyone?)

If you believe The Express (and why wouldn’t you?), Tottenham have hit back at Real Madrid, asking them put up £55m if they want to sign Bale.

That sounds more like it to me. It’s a price that fairly reflects Bale’s contributions over the years and would give Andre Villas-Boas plenty of funds to reimburse in his squad.

£55m is a lot of money by anybody’s terms and it would allow Tottenham to sign two or three world-class players. It may be exactly what Spurs need to keep them in the top four consistently and help them launch title challenges over the next couple of seasons.

Whilst Tottenham fans will be sorry to see him go, it may help take the club to the next level. If somebody is really willing to pay £55m for Bale, surely the time’s right to consider selling him?

What’s your take? Is £55m an acceptable sum for Gareth Bale?

No £55,000,000, is not enough. Spurs are a big CLUB,maybe not a big TEAM at the moment but the only way to get back to the pinnacle, where we belong is to keep this outstanding player.
We have had more GREAT players over the years than anyone. Who can compare to Blanchflower,Mackay,
    Greaves,Klinsman and on and on.
Get brid of the deadwood of Bentley,Gallas,Adebayor,Gomes, and break the bank to get a TOP DRAWER striker like say Michu.

Spurs have finished 4th twice and 5th once in the last 3 years. If it was not for Capello’s England resignation we would have finished 3rd last season. We are getting a much bigger stadium around 60 000 and that will allow us to pay top wages. We can only get better and make the top 4 ours for many years to come.

If gervinho is worth 12-15 million then i’d say bale is worth about 120-150 million.. Sounds about right to me 🙂

Ronaldo and Bale on the same side? That would be scary! I would say between £45m and £55m would be about right. Modric went for £33m, Ronaldo £75m. I would say for his age, pace, engine, and quality he is worth more to Real/Barca than Modders. Plus Spurs have 3years on him, so we would need enough to fill a void in more places than one, so the money needs to be enough for at least 2 world class players. I cant see the deal happening unless Bale forces it, I cant see him doing that if we get champs league.
