Forget about Holtby, this is who Tottenham SHOULD be looking at:

|

Mohamed-Diame-West-HamDespite Tottenham’s lack of viable options upfront, Andre Villas-Boas seems to be intent on bolstering his midfield.

At the time of writing, Spurs are negotiating with Schalke 04 to move forward their deal for Lewis Holtby.

The player has already agreed pre-contract terms with Spurs, but wont be able to make his move until the summer. If Tottenham want him this January, they’ll have to pay up.

Whilst Holtby certainly wouldn’t be a bad player, I believe Tottenham could do better this January. After all, isn’t AVB interested in midfielders largely because Sandro has been ruled out for the rest of the season?

The bulky Brazilian added physical presence to this Spurs side, was a smart tackler and always looked to impose himself on other players. Lewis Holtby, for all his talents, isn’t that kind of player.

That’s why I was somewhat glad to see The Metro claim that Tottenham are looking to sign West Ham midfielder, Mohamed Diame (even if they do finalise a January deal for Holtby!)

I think he’s a player who would fit in extremely nicely in this Spurs side. He shares many qualities with Sandro and has already demonstrated just how good he is with top performances against Chelsea and other clubs this season. He’s tough, but he can also pick out a nice pass and has been extremely effective in a fairly average West Ham team.

Unfortunately for Spurs, both Diame and West Ham boss Sam Allardyce have tried to minimize any talk of a potential transfer.

They player: “I know the club want to keep me too so I will continue to give my best for them. I’m very happy at this club.”

The manager: “Mo Diame has not been to me and said he is unhappy in any way. We’ve had no bids from any of the clubs that have been rumoured in the papers. He’s our player and hopefully come 1 February he will still be our player.” (Source: The BBC).

But here’s the problem for West Ham: Diame has a £3.5m release clause. If a decent club like Tottenham come in with a decent wage offer for the player, the Hammers will find it hard to stop any potential deal going through.

He’d represent a genuine bargain for Spurs and a perfect temporary replacement for Sandro. Snap him up AVB!

What’s your take? Should Tottenham be pursuing Mohammed Diame?

    Quite simply….No

He’s just not good enough which is exactly why he’s been floundering with the likes of Wigan and now West Ham.

If Levy did decide to take a punt on him it would be purely for business reasons just like the Pienaar deal. Snap him up for relative peanuts and flog him to Arsenal for example next year for £5m+

  • Wengersacock says:

Its a no brainer we get a quality player for under £4 million and stuff the Wammers in the process, its a win win.

  • iver biggen says:

Parker aint getting any younger. Football matches won and lost in midfield. Therefore a great and ready made investment.£ 3.5 million wont get you a championship player nowadays. So come on Levy get it done.

You know, I do get a bit tired of all these ‘who we should sign’ articles, written a if they actually mean something and that the author’s judgement is so much better than the manager’s. I’m sure Diame will be delighted at you singing his praises as if you’ve watched West Ham week in week out this season, but how about we say we shouldn’t sign him because he clearly doesn’t interest the club’s management?

I accept that some people are frustrated at the lack of a big name signing this January, and it seems less likely as the days roll on, but please, trust AVB and Mr. Levy – they do know what they’re doing!

    COYS!!!
