Could David Beckham’s next big challenge be revolutionising the Championship?

Former England captain David Beckham has made himself available after deciding to end his association with LA Galaxy. He feels the time is right to move on, with there being a desire on his part to take on one last challenge before hanging up his boots.

Clubs from across the globe are reported to be keen on acquiring his services, with Beckham bringing more than just football ability to any club he turns out for. His brand appeals to sides from Europe, across the Middle East and into Asia and down through Australia. (According to The Guardian, Beckham has received 12 formal offers).

No decision as to his next move has been made as yet, but it is understood that Beckham will sit down to consider all of the offers put to him at some point next week.

Beckham certainly doesn’t need to move for money, hes got enough as it is. I would like to see Beckham move to a lower league club in England. If he moved to a club in the English Championship or League 1 it would create a massive revenue all round the league.

Say he moved to someone like Crystal Palace. Fans of that club would increase each game as people would want to see David Beckham perform each week for their club. If Beckham moved to a Championship club, there are players from all over the world who still have something left to give before hanging up their boots who may consider giving it a try.

Plus, Beckham is that big in the world of football, other players would look at him and what he has done for English football and want to join him in that League. Just imagine the likes of Pirlo, Seedorf and Ronaldinho in the Championship. With players like that, even Championship teams could well be pushing for places in Europe, through English cup finals.

If Championship teams do make it into Europe, that would increase their global appeal. The more teams that make it into Europe, the more the global appeal and the bigger the fan base they will have. Other benefits of this would be the opportunity for clubs to increase their global fanbase.

If a club like Wolves had a big fan base in somewhere like Japan, they could scout young professional players from there and make new signings with greater ease.

Back to my original point, David Beckham should move to a Championship to help benefit the League’s stature and the League’s global fanbase.
