For a long time, Arsene Wenger has had a reputation for favouring ‘youth’, over experience. Whilst there are numerous benefits to his approach, it’s also one that has come back to bite Wenger where it hurts.
His reliance on developing talent is surely one of the main reasons his side has been unable to claim a trophy for seven years now. As such, it’s been a source of ire and concern for Arsenal fans.
There are only so many times you can bare to see Arsene nurture a player – take him from a player with ‘potential’, to somebody who achieves things on the football pitch – only to sell him to the highest bidder. It’s a good business model, but it won’t help the club win trophies.
Luckily, there have been some signs of a change of direction in Arsene’s transfer dealings. Last summer, the Frenchman signed Olivier Giroud, Lukas Podolski and Santi Cazorla, all players who look to be in their peak, all Internationals and all classy talents.
Whilst I applaud these additions, I think it’s possible to go too far in the other direction. That’s to say, I don’t believe there’s much worth in signing players who are reaching the end of their career and have little sell on value.
So, I’m finding it hard to get excited about the fact that Arsenal have been linked to Inter Milan’s Diego Milito. Yes, the man’s a bit of a legend, but he’s also 33-years-old. Hardly a spring-chicken! (Source: Ladbrokes).
You can’t help but admire Milito, one of football’s most consistent goal-scorers. He’s a player who has averaged a goal every two appearances throughout his career and given his age, I’d say that’s a real achievement. He’s also picked up a number of trophies throughout his career and is a ‘winner’, something I’d say Arsenal are lacking in.
It’s believed that Inter are looking to trim their wage bill and may be willing to move Diego on whilst they can still get a decent price for him.
I don’t doubt that Milito is still good enough to succeed in the Premier League. But what about next season, or the season after? How does he fit into Arsene Wenger’s long-term plan?
Wenger has shown little willingness to change and adapt in the transfer market, even out of necessity. Signing Milito would signal a massive change of intent and I just can’t see that happening.
Perhaps Arsenal would be better suited looking elsewhere?
What’s your take? Should the Gunners really be pursuing 33-year-old Diego Milito?

Which way do you want somewhere between load of rubbish
Diego Milito is not the best signing for Arsenal, I think Mr Wenger shoul bring in quality player than D Milito. Such as Anrian Lopez Lenwandoski, Eduado Vargas, Adan Turan, W. Zaha, Ben Afar, Belhada & Yang Mbia. E.T.C
Mr Wenger should bring another replacement for great florp Bakry Sagna, right now he is not capable of his job any more.
arsenal are push overs when its comes to the transfer market, why would a club that needs trophies and a high class striker go for milito at his current age? Still no sign of being serious to win silverware
