Manchester United exited the most recent round of Premier League fixtures, 7 points ahead of their closest rivals, Manchester City. They are way ahead at the top of the table, Robin Van Persie is in unstoppable form and they have a manager who isn’t known for slipping up.

The team has an excellent work rate and is deserving of their position. As the punters say, ‘it’s theirs to lose now’.

And the only way they could possibly give it up to Manchester City now, would be out of complacency. What’s the best way to combat this? Taking to the transfer market and making one or two smart additions.

United have been linked to a good number of players already this January, but perhaps the most intriguing is Wilfried Zaha, Crystal Palace’s top notch young winger.

Anybody who has been paying attention knows that Zaha has a big future ahead of him. He’s got pace, he’s got tricky feet, he’s direct and he provides plenty of goal threat. There’s no doubting his talent and should he develop under the watchful eye of an able manager, there’s every chance he’ll end up being a world-class player.

Whilst Palace will want to keep hold of him, should the right offer come in from a big club, they’ll likely have no option but to sell. Without wanting to offend Palace fans, it looks like he’s set for bigger and better things.

The main question, I suppose, is just how much would it take to convince Ian Holloway and Crystal Palace to sell?

The Daily Star claim that Arsenal, along with Manchester United, have also declared their interest in the youngster and that this may drive his price-tag up to £12m.

That strikes me as an absolute bargain. £12m for a player who is easily one of the best in world football in his age group? Snap him up. Something tells me that the Star’s scribes are being a little optimistic.

Regardless of what it takes, Wilfried is the kind of player who can provide an additional spark for United, to help drag them over the finishing line. He’s the kind of player you sign when you need a little ‘extra’. That’s why he’d be better suited at Manchester United rather than Arsenal.

Looking at Arsenal, it seems they need to make major additions all over the pitch. United are almost there and Zaha may be the final piece of the puzzle.

What’s your take? Should Manchester United snap up Wilfried Zaha for just £12m?
