Yet another Arsenal player ready to leave – when will the torment stop?

It’s quite clear that Arsenal have transformed into a selling club. Since the advent of the Emirates, Arsene Wenger’s transfer policy has been warped into a noxious, ugly beast. It’s been pulled apart to the extent that the only thing that matters is profit ratios and balance sheets. The importance of success on the field has become a thing of the past.

Arsene Wenger develops talent and then sells them on to top clubs for a profit. It’s all very well for the top brass, who are no doubt reveling in the opportunity to fill their coffers, but it’s not satisfying viewing for the genuine fans.

So it’s little surprise to see all the recent furore regarding Arsenal right-back Bacary Sagna. The Daily Mail recently claimed that the Frenchman would be the latest high-profile Gunner to leave the Emirates in an acrimonious fashion. They claim that he feels ‘disrespected’ after the Gunners only offered a 12 month extension to his current deal (Which expires in 2014). What’s more, the Gunners are unwilling to improve on his weekly salary of £60k.

The Frenchman is 30 now, and Arsenal have a policy that they enact sporadically when players hit this age. They only offer one-year extensions, rather than long-term contracts. I wouldn’t be surprised if this irked Bacary, who has already expressed his dissatisfaction with Arsenal selling Alex Song and Robin Van Persie in the summer.

He’s clearly not a happy bunny.

But he is a fantastic player and he’s showing no signs of slowing down. Looking at this Arsenal team, he’s probably the only player who has a genuine claim to being the ‘best in his position’ in the Premier League. He’s a great combination of pace, intelligence and ability. He gets up and down the flank well, always seems to be in the right position at the right time and can cross the ball as well as anybody else in this Arsenal side.

The truth is, Arsenal won’t be able to find a player as good as Sagna for the price they sell him for. So why would they bother getting rid of him in the first place? Why does the club continue to punish good performers by presenting them with questionable contracts.

Whilst we don’t know the real story behind Sagna’s contract negotiations, the signs are somewhat worrying. With both Sagna and Theo Walcott looking as though they may be ready to move on, Arsene Wenger has his work cut out fixing the abysmal situation that is currently brewing at the Emirates.

What’s your take? Should the Gunners pull out the stops to keep Bacary Sagna?

We all truly know how players’ contract issues end at Arsenal. Mr Wenger says all sorts of things, swearing the rumours are baseless;yet in the confines of the boardroom,he along with the directors are busy sharing the expected sales income We have lost our dear club.We must fight to get Arsenal’s soul from them.

I love ArsenaI, but hate wenger policy. Why can’t he keep our realiable players for God sake? I pray he tender his resignation letter at the end of the seasson.
