Two new deals that Arsenal fans can celebrate?

Despite all his talent, Jack Wilshere has been called up on a couple of times for his off the field behaviourArsenal fans are in desperate need of cheering up. A beating from League two side Bradford City in the Carling Cup has more or less sent the club spiraling into despair and it’s difficult to see how Arsene Wenger can turn this particular ship around.

A good start, would involve bringing in a few decent players to add further depth to the squad. But equally as important, is the need to tie down the few players who do look to have a future with the club on long-term contracts.

So I’m sure Arsenal fans will allow themselves to feel a slight slither of happiness having seen Arseblog News claim that both Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey are ‘close’ to agreeing new terms with the club.

The important thing here, is that Arsenal are actively looking to avoid a case where their best players are close to running down their contracts. We’ve seen the likes of Robin Van Persie, Samir Nasri and now Theo Walcott look to take advantage of the club through their dwindling contract lengths in the past and it’s a good thing that Arsenal are looking to avoid these cases in the future.

It would be particularly good news if Jack Wilshere did sign a new long-term contract. He’s a future England captain and one of the most talented players of the next generation. But watching him exert himself against Bradford City to zero reward, I couldn’t help but wonder what he was thinking. I couldn’t help but wonder if he’d start thinking about his future.

It’s good to see that he’s staying loyal.

As for Aaron Ramsey, I appreciate that he’s struggling at the moment. His form is essentially non-existent. Despite this, however, he’s a player I admire. He has battled back from an injury that could have easily ended his career and he never hides. Under pressure, he tends to crack, but that’s something that will disappear with time. There’s a good player in there, just waiting to break out.

The truth is, however, he’s not ready to be a regular first-teamer. He needs time to claim his own space and he needs to be playing in an environment that’s less of a pressure-cooker.

Agreeing a new deal will give Ramsey the time he needs to develop and give him the opportunity to prove to the rest of the world that he’s a good player.

So that’s two good deals that Arsenal are looking to agree. Let’s hope this gun-ho attitude transfers into the transfer market too.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal finalise long-term deals with both Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey?
