December is well known for its festivities. This is the period when football fans enjoy a galore of exhilarating matches. Thick and fast is exactly what the doctor ordered. Each manager knows you certainly need to be prepared for both the good and the bad. Arsenal’s manager Arsene Wenger is having quite the torrid time in the league. His team however picked up a vital win during the weekend against fired up West Brom.

Two well taken penalties by the deputy skipper Arteta ensured all 3 points were in the bag and enough to spare Wenger the jeers from the Emirates faithful. They played like the decent Arsenal we all know. However behind the veils, contracts for Bacary Sagna and the speed star Theo Walcott have stalled. Well this shouldn’t be a shock to the world since it has been quite the occurrence. Sagna was quoted in one of the tabloids, saying he was offered a ‘disrespectful’ contract (Source: The Daily Mail). As for Walcott, it’s obvious craves for an increase in his weekly salary and that lucrative post of leading the attack front, to be the main striker.

Reports have been circulating in the net about who Wenger will buy in the January transfer window. This is move to reinforce the depleted squad and at least add some steel to aid in the title challenge. I for one think Klaas Jan Huntelaar would be a perfect buy. He is on the verge of his last year on his contract and if Wenger is serious he could acquire his services on a bargain price of about £6 million. By his many goals last season, he single handedly helped Shalke 04 get to the Champions League, coincidentally put in the same group with Arsenal.

The qualities he possesses are extraordinary. A powerful striker with the ability to head in balls and finish passes in the third half. Something the Gunners have lacked since the departure of Van Persie. Giroud has shown flashes of brilliance but at the moment, they need Klaas. Work needs to be done on that striking front. Gervinho is quite a decent player however his flaws shadow his quality: too much inconsistency. He lacks that finishing pass. Personally I think one Grant Holt, Canaries skipper, could do well in that position.

The return of Wilshere and Rosicky after long spells in the medical room has boosted the squad. With Cazorla impressing since his arrival in the summer, Arsenal now possess a formidable midfield. However as much as we want to praise them, Arsenal still lack the prowess of Alex Song in defensive work. Arteta has been decent but not good enough. Too many goals have been conceded from that area. Mapou-Yanga Mbiwa from Montpellier should be a good buy. He is a strong player with the ability to command the midfield as well as link the defense with the striking front.

All the Gunners need is Yaya Toure-esque man to bolster the defensive work. M’Villa is still available. Due to the tension with Walcott, another good winger in the name of Wilfried Zaha could be the perfect guy for that job. One or two players could be purchased to shuffle up the defense. Thus, a bigger squad will create a chance for team rotation during the various games coming in and also cover up the injuries that might occur during the season.

Critics, fans and pundits have all been on Wenger’s case. The recent contract that was signed between Arsenal and Fly Emirates some weeks ago may be able to convince Arsene to go into the purse and get new additions. He did say so in one of the pre-match interviews. Fans have criticized that some players in the squad should be done with. Well that will be up to the manager to call the shots. There are so many games yet a limited duration. Arsene needs to act, and act fast. After all is said and done, the question still stands, who should he go after?
