One thing was totally apparent throughout Arsenal’s 2-0 victory against West Brom: this is an Arsenal side who desperately need a focal point upfront.

Yes, the Gunners had enough about them to eek out a victory, but the truth is, it took to contentious decisions to force the result.

Whilst Arsenal were the better team on the day, it took too penalties, both of them won in contentious circumstances to see them home.

Without going into the nitty gritty of the decisions themselves, let’s just say that Arsenal finally received a cut of the luck they seem to have been missing over the last month or so.

They needed this luck because Olivier Giroud and Gervinho didn’t look to provide much threat on the day. On paper, they’re a good combination: Giroud has the heading combination and Gervinho has the pace to get in behind.

The trouble is that the two of them don’t have any sense of ‘nous’ about them.

They make poor decisions which often result in the play breaking down. Gervinho looks like a particularly hapless character. Whenever he’s given an opportunity to think, it tends to result in him giving the ball away. Suffice to say, the Gunners could do with bolstering this area during the January transfer window.

So it’s something of a relief to see L’Equipe claim that Arsenal are ready to swoop in with a £4m January deal for Schalke’s Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (via: The Metro).

This is a man who has scored 58 goals in 68 games in the Bundesliga whilst at Schalke. The fact that he may be available at just £4m is something of a minor miracle. We’ve all seen what he can offer at just about every level of the game and he’d be a smart addition to the Arsenal side.

Better still, the Gunners would still have plenty of money to splash on other areas of the pitch (bringing in yet another striker may be a smart move, along with a defensive midfielder and another defensive body).

As such, it’s a move that makes a great deal of sense. I’m sure that figure will rise over the weeks leading to January, but if Wenger can snap up a bargain on this kind of level, Arsenal may well be able to steady their rocking ship.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal finalise a deal for Klaas-Jan Huntelaar?

It will be great to have him but before Poldi joined he was scoring in the Bundisliga for Koln.
He is yet to meet the expectations of the fans.
    #THE EPL is different.

Do we have to response to this? Your aim in the article was to malign the team and the two players copiously mentioned. You had said what you wanted to say, opinion of others are inconsequential. We wait till January, period.

  • Jemes says:

As much as I would like to see him at the Arsenal, it is not going to happen because Giroud is in the same build as him, I don’t see us signing two target men in the same season

Not with Wenger-until the deal is done,i cannot believe the story.

How many times have we been looking forward to a proposed signing and then been kicked in the teeth?

Too many times my friends and this one seems too good to be true and anyway with the state we’re in this season who the hell would want to join us even if Wenger did open up his rusty purse?.
