Should Arsenal move for this ace striker after his falling out with a team-mate?

When Everton striker Nikica Jelavic first joined the Premier League, back in January, there were some doubts as to whether he’d be able to make the step up. Prior to the move, Jelavic had enjoyed two great seasons with Rangers where he scored 36 goals in 55 appearances. Whilst this was no mean feat and boded well, many have tried to move from the Scottish Premier League to the English League before and failed.

Fortunately for Everton, he’s looked the part since moving to Everton. He has thus far scored 16 goals in 29 games and has lead the line with confidence for David Moyes’ side. He’s strong in the air, can head the ball well and has the physicality to compete for the ball along the ground. Yes, it’s his goal-scoring prowess that makes him a real prospect, but there’s much more to his game than that.

And now we’re hearing reports that he’s considering handing in a transfer request after a falling out with fellow new-boy, Kevin Mirallas. The Express claim that Jelavic ‘lambasted’ Mirallas for being ‘selfish’ during the last Merseyside derby and that relations have since ‘soured’ between the two. That all sounds a little dramatic to me, but if there’s any truth to these rumours, then the Croatian’s future may lie elsewhere.

It’s pretty handy then, that the Express have also linked Jelavic to potential move to Arsenal in January.

This, I’m sure, is likely to stir up similar doubts to those Jelavic faced last January. Many fans didn’t believe he’d make the adaption to the Premier League and I’m sure many will believe he won’t make the step up to Champions League football and a top club like Arsenal (sorry Everton fans, I think Arsenal are still a level above, though this supremacy may well be in the balance).

The fact is, however, Jelavic has scored goals wherever he has gone. He’s a proven goal threat in the Premier League. He’s big and tough and he’s the kind of player who Arsenal could use.

We’ve all been witness to Arsenal’s struggles this season. Without Robin Van Persie they lack cut and thrust moving forward. If Jelavic’s situation at Goodison Park becomes untenable, Arsene Wenger may well find his interest piqued. And if he does make the move, I certainly wouldn’t beat against him establishing himself at the top level.

What’s your take? Would Nikica Jelavic be a good signing for Arsenal?
