Is Liverpool’s transfer scheme just about crazy enough to work?

Desperate times call for desperate measures. Whilst I’m sure Liverpool fans won’t have a word of it, there is an air of desperation surrounding Anfield.

This Liverpool side pales in comparison to great sides of old and beyond their Uruguayan superstar Luis Suarez, they offer very little threat going forward.

Whilst newbies like Nuri Sahin and Joe Allen have fit in nicely at their new digs, Liverpool have noticeably dropped off in all areas of the pitch.

Pepe Reina doesn’t look like half the player he used to be. The defence doesn’t look as solid as last season. Steven Gerrard has lost some pace over the years and can’t boss a midfield like he used to. And upfront, Liverpool are like a blunt instrument – completely ineffective.

Whilst Raheem Sterling and Jonjo Shelvey offer hope for the future, Liverpool may need to turn to the transfer market if they are to seriously improve this side.

You can only rely on the likes of Stewart Downing (nice goal against Anzhi by the way!) and Jordan Henderson for so long. Liverpool need quality and they need it quick.

Speaking of quality, the Reds have been linked with former Chelsea dynamo Didier Drogba. Indeed, the Daily Mail claim that the Reds have enquired about the possibility of bringing Drogba to Anfield on a two month loan when the Chinese season ends next month.

It’s claimed that Drogba will return to England for two months of training in preparation for the African Cup of Nations. Could Liverpool use the opportunity to snap him up?

Whilst Drogba is now 34-years-old, he’s not the kind of player who would let age defeat him. He’s never relied on pace – his key attributes include his physical strength, tenacity, aerial dominance and ability to retain possession.

More than anything else, however, he’s a natural goal scorer (100 goals in 226 games for Chelsea) something that Liverpool desperately need.

The Reds made a mistake when they loaned Andy Carroll to West Ham. They can make amends by forcing through a loan deal for Drogba. A player of his caliber is sure to make a positive impact, even if he’s just at the club for two months. He has the fighting spirit to pull Liverpool out of their slump.

It’s a little out there and wages may be a problem, but as a temporary solution, I doubt the Reds can do any better.

What’s your take? Can Liverpool bring Didier Drogba to Anfield?

I think brendans decision to loan carroll out has been correct no goals, the only problem with it was not signing a replacement. everyone is on the liverpool band wagon
