How huge can this Brazilian ace and Spurs target become?

At a golden age for Brazilian football one youngsters name pops up in every conversation: Neymar. However, Brazilian football is not a one-man agenda. Probably boosted by the World Cup in 2014, Brazilian football is doing extremely well. Big name stars are back on Brazilian soil, other international stars have headed there to end their career. On top of that, there’s a new crop of Brazilian talent ready to steal the show samba style.

Ganso is one of these players. Linked throughout Summer with a move to European teams (and still linked by some sources Tottenham), including some in the Premier League, Ganso has become a well known name. It takes a lot to get noticed in a team alongside Neymar but Ganso managed to do this, on both the international stage and at club level with Santos.

Now at Sao Paulo, Ganso has begun the next stage of his career. He managed 36 goals in 162 games for Santos, but is yet to make his debut at Sao Paulo. He joined Santo’s state rivals ‘in search of higher status and pay’. The young lad is not afraid to take a leap, as he showed by leaving his boyhood club. I’m expecting to see him in Europe in a few years.

However, like many other young players currently in Brazil, I don’t see this happening until after the World Cup. That’s not to say it couldn’t happen, it still might, but considering he chose to move to Sao Paulo when many European clubs were chasing him says a lot. This boy has set out his route in his mind.

His style of play has created an image of him that is often compared to with Kaka, one of Brazil’s forgotten heroes. It’s always dangerous to attach a young players name with that of an established star but Ganso has the ability and drive to achieve those levels and even eclipse them.

Ganso wasn’t happy with his old club Santos for one simple reason; his improved contract offer was not as good as Neymar’s. Of course, these players play in different positions and are vastly different, but one similarity is that they are both extremely talented. It’s a shame their careers took a separate path, they could have created a link-up that would have been near perfect. One things for certain, the Brazilian national team will definitely improve.

Ganso is one of my favourite young players, a youngster with the ambition, ability and skill to achieve the high levels of the footballing game. Comparisons to past stars are sure to be made and he will often have to sit in the shadows of his compatriot Neymar, but that’s not a bad thing. Stay there, develop further and then prove himself. He can do it. He will end up in Europe and he will be a star.

Any club that gains Ganso can count their blessings, he’s definitely one to watch.
