A lot has already been written about Liverpool’s shortcomings this season. We’ve all seen how Brendan Rodger’s was hamstrung by his own club, who allowed Andy Carroll to go out on loan, without properly supporting their head coach when it came to courting a replacement.

Whilst Andy Carroll was often a waste of space last year, he did over the Reds aerial dominance and physical presence upfront – something that the likes of Luis Suarez and Fabio Borini just can’t offer. As it is, however, the Reds have been left with a rather one dimensional attack. Sure, Luis Suarez has accepted his additional responsibility and scored some important goals, but Liverpool still need additional reinforcements in this area.

So it’s rather pleasing to see the National (via GiveMeFootball, who claim he’d cost Liverpool around £15m) link Brendan Rodger’s side to Marseille forward Loic Remy. Remy is a name that’s popped up in conjunction with numerous Premier League clubs over the last couple of years. Indeed, Chelsea were strongly linked to the French International, last summer.

Remy may appeal to Brendan Rodgers as a result of his versatility. He’s capable of playing on either flank, or down the middle. And let’s face it, Liverpool need quality in all these areas. Best of all, Remy is a confident finisher, which is also something the Reds could use. He grabbed 20 goals in 42 appearances last season.

He’s also known for his pace and direct running. He has the flair and the ability to really light up the Premier League and I’d love see him in a Liverpool shirt. As the Reds battle desperately for Champions League football, they’ll need reinforcements like Remy to help maintain their efforts.

With a £15m price-tag, it’s unclear whether Liverpool would be able to afford him. The Reds found themselves beaten in the transfer market on numerous occasions last summer and a similar situation may arise should they go in for Remy. It’s clear, however, that he’s worth his fee. I’d like to see Rodgers go in for the French star, whether they end up winning the ensuing transfer battle or not.

He may be just what the club needs to re-ignite their fortunes.

What’s your take? Would Loic Remy be a good addition at Anfield, or should Brendan Rodgers be looking elsewhere?

I think alot of people these days base their opinion on a player purely because he’s talked about. Remy is a perfect example of this. Anyone that has really watched him would agree, he is by no means a bad player. But certainly not anything special either.
