At £25m is this man tailor-made for a role in Manchester United’s midfield?

Has anybody really found themselves impressed by Manchester United this season? A defeat by Everton during their first game of the season has really set the tone. Now Sir Alex Ferguson’s boys are losing to Tottenham at home and struggling to see off FC Cluj.

In all likelihood, Manchester United are going to fall further behind their City rivals this season, unless some improvements are made.

Yes, I realize that Sir Alex Ferguson didn’t exactly sit still during the summer transfer market. He realized that his side needed to improve and went out and bought some top players.

He saw there was a need to bolster his attack, so he went out and bought Robin Van Persie, a move that has paid some serious dividends.

But surely he can see that his midfield (and his defence for that matter) also needs some work. With Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes getting on, and Nani’s future uncertain, it looks like there’s going to be a serious creativity-vacuum in Manchester United’s midfield. Let’s hope that Fergie is looking to fix that this January.

I was particularly excited to hear that Manchester United were in the market for Juventus’ Chielean ace Arturo Vidal.

Vidal, 25-years-old, is a top class player. He usually plays as a defensive midfielder, but he’s got the ability and the engine to play as a box-to-box midfielder. This, to me, is the kind of player United have been after for some time. I think he plays the way that Sir Alex envisions Anderson playing. Whilst the Brazilian just doesn’t have the stamina, the Chilean can run all day.

We all know that Fergie loves players who will bust a gut for their side, but it’s important that they can offer a little bit more than a good attitude. Vidal has pace, intelligence and vision. He always seems to be in the right place at the right time.

So, it’s not surprising, though it is a little disappointing, to see the likes of Manchester City and Real Madrid (according to talkSPORT) challenging for his signature. This is a player that looks to be tailor made for a role in a Manchester United midfield.

He’s been slapped with a £25m price-tag which may be within Fergie’s range. City have snapped up Javi Garcia and Madrid spent big on Luka Modric last summer. If they really go after him, they may well be able to pull this signing off.

What’s your take? Would Arturo Vidal be a good addition at Old Trafford?
