There has been a lot said about Liverpool’s inability to secure the services of a striker during the transfer window, especially after they allowed Andy Carroll to move to West Ham for just £1m.
This was a naive move by Brendan Rodgers to ostracise one of his only two established forward players, and allow him to leave for such a small fee, without ensuring the board would sign a replacement.
But following an open letter from John W. Henry, the principle owner of LFC, to fans apologising for the lack of transfer activity, and justifying this by highlighting their previous errors in the transfer market in overpaying for talent, it suggests that the LFC board can learn from its mistakes.
Not stumping up £6m for the services of Clint Dempsey, a proven premier league goal scorer, appears to be a ridiculous over compensation for previous errors and surely represented the kind of value LFC should be looking for, rather than attempting risky loan negotiations on the final day of the transfer window.
So what can FSG do to support their under pressure boss and get Liverpool’s season back on track? Watching Steven Gerrard during Liverpool’s last league game he certainly seemed to be lacking in belief. This is a dressing room that needs a lift in January when the transfer window opens.
There is one target that Liverpool set about acquiring, most significantly on deadline day (source: Daily Mail), that would be a great addition to their squad and could be achievable in January, and that is Daniel Sturridge.
LFC made a loan move for Sturridge but he and Chelsea were looking for a permanent move, but could this change in the coming months?
Chelsea have started the season well with Fernando Torres the clear choice up top, as a loan striker. Sturridge has made no secret of the fact that he wants to play through the middle and expects the opportunity to compete for a starting place, something that seems unlikely as I believe Torres is coming in to form and will score goals, after all he is their £50m star striker.
By January the opportunity to play first team football at Liverpool may prove to be an attractive proposition, and I think FSG would have to be crazy not to move heaven and earth to get some business achieved in the next window.
This signing will make perfect sense for all parties and may give Liverpool a chance of putting the ball the back of the net. Whilst Chelsea may be more willing to make this transfer on a loan basis, possibly with a view to a permanent move, if the rumoured arrival of Falcao from Athletico Madrid goes through in January, which would also put Sturridge further down the pecking order.

You obviously missed the part where Brendan didn’ want to sign Sturridge on a permanent basis as he’s tagged “troublesome”. Why would that change in just few months time????

Hope they don’t. Enough of this super hyped, over priced & paid mediocre British players, whose 90% attribute is physical. In my team, there should be only 8 English players, of whom 4 should be 2nd & 3rd keeper & reserve centre backs.
Utter garbage for 12-15mn; had he not been English, he would have been priced 3-5mn at best. In Spain, there are better forwards play in Division II.
