Why giving Rangers’ 2005 League title to Celtic would be a travesty of justice:

Rangers are the world’s most successful club. If you don’t believe me, check out the Guinness Book of Records. They have won more trophies – 115 in total, including 54 national league titles – than any other club in the world. This has always stuck in our rivals throats and the attempt to strip Rangers of these titles is a cheap attempt to rewrite history. The basis for this is the use of the EBT tax scheme. Rangers have declared these payments to the SFA every year, yet all of a sudden it is being seen as a dual contract. But alas the Scottish game is never clear and simple and tribal loyalties run deep.

If Rangers were to be stripped of the 2005 league title who will it be given to? It will be given to Celtic; a team that at that time were operating the EBT tax scheme. How is this justice? Celtic has so far refused to confirm if the EBT used for the Brazilian Juninho was paid within one contract or as a dual.

Why is no one asking questions of Celtic? Celtic is now in control of the Scottish game and has no fear of retaliation for their use of the dual contracts if proved. Timing as they say is everything. What kind of message does this send out? It is either against the rules to use the EBT scheme or it is not. The fact that Celtic weren’t good enough to win the title in the season that they used the EBT funded Juninho is if anything proof that using EBTs does not give clubs a sporting advantage.

With the inquiry into Rangers use of EBTs about to begin this week most Rangers supports don’t hold out any hopes of getting a fair hearing. The SFA and SPL are corrupt and are smarting that Rangers exploits in the third division attract more television viewers and fans through the turnstiles than the tired and pointless SPL.

If punishment is to be dealt out then it must be dealt out fairly. Celtic fans for years claimed that the SFA was corrupt and biased in favour of Rangers, now it seems that nothing has changed, only that the rider has merely jumped horses and now favours Celtic.

Glad to see you admit that the SFA have been corrupt and biased in favour of Oldco for years!

I think your article failed from the start with ” Rangers are the most successful club”

      They are gone. Dead. Finished.

The Sevco franchise are NOT Rangers. They are a new club who have bought the assets of a defunct club and are using a similar name to trade. They have no history.

Why does it therefore matter to you if the now dead club Rangers History is adjusted to take into account a number of years of cheating? Indeed why does it matter to anyone. They are dead, and will never be again.

      All very strange.

as u say cybermug timing is everything and your timing is red rotten,if u ya mug had held off for one more day u would have found out that everything was above board with the celtic ebt,but anyway keep up the poor posting u do as your mince brings a smile to my face.p.s just as well u do this for free as u would not get a wage for this muck

We feel your pain, Cyberted. (We don’t share it though!) Har! Har! Har!

  • Ciderted ,pish as usual,R***ers are dead! the titles will be stripped make no a doubt it!

  • john says:

What a load of tosh , there is nothing wrong with EBTs they are not against football regulations they are legal and they are allowed by the SFA and SPL. No one is investigating whether Rangers used EBTs or not, it will investigate whether or not all player contracts were registered and if players where not registered then then should not have played .

    simples

    • Eduin says:

Juninho Paulista’s EBT was categorically NOT registered with the SPL or SFA

      • john says:

I,ll think you,ll find that Celtic were found with no case to answer concerning EBTs , maybe evryone is just against you..whats it like being paranoid

  • PJD says:

As a Celtic fan, I suggest that the Juninho EBT which was paid towards the end of the 2004-5 season should result is the Scottish Cup being forfeited and awarded to Dundee United as the rightful winners.

Any Club with a double contract arrangement – there is no guarantee that Juninho was under a double contract arrangement as this was a pay off – should have every game in which a player(s) participated have a 3-0 reverse score stipulated. If this results in the 2004-5 title not being awarded to Celtic well so be it.

Sporting integrity is paramount. Any team with an EBT must take the medicine. Celtic’s would be a pill whereas Oldco will be a factory full.

  • Paul says:

I love laughing at your childish, bitter wee articles CyberTed. lol!

  • Stefan says:

Jeez, they are still clinging to this!! Junhino had an EBT when he arrived from Middlesboro, we questioned it’s use in football, declared it and paid the full PAYE. This is well-documented!!! What a waste of an article.

    • Bigbananafeet says:

They only see and hear what they want to see and hear. They have had this explained so many times to them and they still can not understand it. We should pity them.

  • HoudiniBhoy says:

    Ted, Ted, Ted, Ted, Ted…

If you are not trolling then you are sorely mistaken with your facts, either way how this website can give you a milk crate to spout this rubbish is beyond me.

Let me say first the EBT’s aren’t the issue, they never have been. You see, Celtic did pay Juninho by way of an EBT but then when they found out it wasn’t as kosher as first thought, they paid the tax owed as required after consulting with the taxman. How he was paid was in his one and only “SINGLE” contract with FULL disclosure to the SFA.

The issue regarding the latest enquiry into your former club isn’t EBT’s, it is duplicity in contracts, it is to find out whether your NUMEROUS (not just one) players were in fact being paid on separate contracts NOT submitted to the SFA. (Illegal Bit, so pay attention to it)

You know, it really isn’t sinking in with some of you lot with the endless “The Big Hoose Must Stay Open” moments with deflectors set to max… or is it stun, I’m past caring?

  • Chris says:

    Clearly confused.
There is no question regarding the legalities of using EBT’s. They are perfectly legal and, if implemented properly, and that is the telling phrase here, if implemented properly, there is nothing wrong with them.
Problem is, is that Oldco Rangers, used them illegally. This is why they have challenged HMRC and the case had to go to the FTTB. The tax man has asked for his money and Oldco Rangers were defending themselves with regard to how much tax was due to HMRC. Notice here that the issue is not about using the EBT, it’s with how much tax they should have paid.
The tribunal this week is sitting to ascertain if Oldco Rangers declared these EBT’s as part of the players contracts to the SFA and later the SPL.
It appears that Oldco Rangers have a case to answer.
If they registered players improperly with the SFA, then they cheated, therefore titles should be stripped and the competition that year declared void and all prize monies returned.
If they can’t do this then it’s EXPULSION.

  • 123 says:

lol at the pitiful attempt to equate 1 players ebt, on which all tax liable was payed, with a decade or more of the aleged systematic defrauding of the scottish game by RFC. Also if it is actually the case that celtic control/dominate the fa currently, which i dont for 1 minute believe, could you explain how the fa came to be under the “stewardship” of one Campbell Ogilvie, former General Secretary and later Director of the previous incarnation of Rangers FC?

  • Richard says:

    Laugh Out Loud.

Celtic paid tax on this EBT. Celtic Declared this EBT (at the time).

Rangers declared it in their accounts (we are led to believe), not to the relevant football authorities.

What is so difficult to understand?

  • TheHoopedBaron says:

Another article that totally misses the point re the use of EBTs by Rangers.

To clarify .. NOONE in the SFA SPL SFL Celtic or any other organisation is questioning the legality or indeed the use of EBTs. At the time EBTs were allowable under UK tax law if used CORRECTLY.

The current SPL review of Rangers and their use of EBTs is in relation to whether Rangers informed them properly that their players contracts included their EBT amounts or were they indeed an undeclared hidden second contract.

As far as using EBTs for tax avoidance is concerned, this is a totally seperate issue for HMRC not the SPL. The use of EBTs for contracted salary amounts is where the Rangers EBT use is incorrect in the first place and as a result Hector will sort this out next month.

    To summarise…
EBTs for contracted salaries is the issue for HMRC.
EBTs for players contracts and their disclosure to the SFA is the issue for the football authorities.
    Two entirely different issues.

  • Hamoflage says:

A rare admission that the football authorities have been favouring rangers for years, although how you can suggest they have switched their allegiance to Celtic after their disgraceful attempts to bully every club in Scotland into accepting newco into SPL/SFL1 is beyond me.

On the subject of tainted trophies, why not leave the record blank for those years to remind us what can happen when a club becomes so favoured by the establishment and the media that they feel they can get away with anything.

  • hoopy says:

    Wow,

Still bitter? Sad and lonely now reality has kicked in? The EBT thing is not your only worry. If i were on the blue side of the city i would be more worried about just how big a punishment will be met out. Wake up and smell the oranges!!

  • b2k says:

Fair enough if you are right and Celtic were illegal in 2005 they should not get the title it should go to the 3rd placed. They too should be investigated to clear this up.

I think that we all agree that any year any team wins by cheating, what they won should be taken from them.

  • JoeG says:

A very poor attempt at justification, from a very poorly informed individual.
There is no question fans who supported that old club who used to be called rangers are angry. But what they are having difficulty with is venting their anger at the real culprit. The old club who used to be called rangers.
They are angry not only because they no longer exist. They are angry not only because they were cheating for years and years. they are angry not only because they had inside assistance which has blown up in their faces. they are angry not only because they have been exposed as the cheats they are and have been for years. They are angry because all of this and the fact that they have embarrassed themelves and the world of football. Embarrassed because they have been caught and proven guilty as cheats.
So in response to them being the worlds most successful team, you are wrong on many counts and right in none other than that old club which used to be called rangers used a scheme which was illegal, therefore, not really successful in anything other than years of corruption before the sh*t hit the fan.
Winners is a distinction only for clubs playing within the rules that all participants are obligated to adhere to. That old club which used to be called rangers, did none of that. They cheated and this my friend, is why the records you speak of, are not only tainted, but illegal therefore, the record is incorrect, just as are you. Hail Hail!

  • Big Mike says:

They are all panicking now, they cheated and they should be punished accordingly. Unlike the cheats from the South side of Glasgow Celtic did not cheat they declared all. If you are not guilty of anything then you have nothing to worry about. This club leaves £135,000,000 of debt and everyone else is at fault. Funny really!
