Since the summer transfer window slammed shut, it seems that all we’ve heard from a Spurs’ perspective is about the players that the club were set to sign, but ultimately failed to do so. The latest individual to come out and confess: Spurs were after me, was German international Miroslav Klose.

The 34-year-old may no longer be at the top of his game, but there’s no doubting his goal scoring prowess. You don’t grab 64 international goals without know where the net is.

Whether or not he was the right solution for the Tottenham is another matter. But the fact that Andre Villas-Boas was after him, is revealing. Klose recently told the Press:

Tottenham came looking for me, but I signed for Lazio until 2014 and I intend to respect that contract.” (Source: Daily Mail)

With the greatest respect, I don’t think Miroslav Klose will be that big a loss for Spurs. Naturally, he’ll make me eat my words next week when Tottenham meet Lazio in the Europa League. The fact remains however, Klose isn’t getting any younger and Spurs need a long-term solution to their striking dilemma.

What is disappointing, is that Tottenham failed to secure his services and then failed to react and go after somebody else. Whilst I think Clint Dempsey was a smart addition, I’m not sure he’s going to be quite the font of goals that everybody seems to think he will. Spurs still need another out-and-out striker to provide some competition for Emmanuel Adebayor and Jermaine Defoe.

I’d argue that both players are beyond their peak and may struggle over the course of an entire season.

A lack of goal-scorers has already damaged Tottenham this season. The club’s unwillingness, or inability to deal with this problem during the transfer window won’t do anything to improve the situation.

The fact that AVB was in the market for another striker seems to suggest he was aware of this weakness. Now Tottenham will have to wait until January for another bite of the apple. Whether they can wait that long is very much up for debate. Somebody needs to start scoring regular goals and soon.

What’s your take? Would Miroslav Klose have been a good addition at White Hart Lane? Can they survive with the limited striking options they have?

The details behind such things are never clear. Spurs or maybe even just an agent would go out and determine if there is interest. Many times it is just the agent. Now this could have happened before we signed Ade, and Spurs were looking at options. It is a bit like buying a car. Just because I went to a dealer and asked for a price, does not mean I will buy that car. You determine what is available, and what is the price. I think the press hypes it all too much..
