Should Chelsea splurge £48m on this talented striker?

It’s probably the most predictable headline you could come up with. After Atletico Madrid’s hat-trick hero tore them apart in the European Super Cup, the Daily Mail claimed that Chelsea were ready to snap up Colombian striker Radamel Falcao.

It goes as far as to say that South American reports suggest that a pre-agreement has been formed between Atletico and Chelsea for a £48m deal to be completed this January. Talent don’t come cheap.

And there’s no doubting that Falcao is talented. He’s scored goals wherever he’s been and has lit up La Liga with his dynamic forward play. He’s already scored 6 goals in 3 games this season. He’s pretty much unstoppable on his day and rivals the likes of Robin Van Persie in terms of pure goal scoring prowess. And that’s the best thing about him: he’s only 26-years-old and he’s just about to enter his prime.

So now’s the right time to snap him up. Whilst I’m taking the Daily Mail’s claims with a pinch of salt, it’s difficult not to get excited at the possibility. But it’s worth considering if the Colombian would even be a good fit at Stamford Bridge.

The first thing to consider: Chelsea already have a £50m striker. His name is Fernando Torres and he too is doing a pretty smashing job this season. We all know of his problems in the past, but it’s clear that things are different now. It’s like he’s put some distance between himself and his price-tag, re-fueled during the Euros and come back stronger.

As many are keen to point out, the absence of Didier Drogba looks to have ‘freed’ him. He’s playing now like he knows he’s the leading man. He’s Chelsea’s most important striker and he knows it. This knowledge has allowed him to turn back into the Torres we saw during his time at Anfield.

The arrival of another big name (and indeed, a player with a few similarities to Drogba in terms of physique and playing style) could put the mockers on his development. I can’t help but feel that Chelsea’s best move would be to start nurturing some young talent, to put a little more faith into the likes of Daniel Sturridge and Romelu Lukaku.

That may not sound quite as exciting as splurging £50m on another striker, but it may be just as rewarding. Chelsea have finally got Torres back to his scintillating best, so let’s hope they don’t ruin it now.

What’s your take? Would Radamel Falcao be a smart addition at Stamford Bridge?

Yea I’m a chelsea supporter, And I like Torres and want him to score lots of goal’s for us, but just imagine if the roles where switched Torres was playing for A M and Falcoa was playing for chelsea, do you still think we would of lost 4 1 ? there’s talent and there is that little or lot better talent, but I guess it also depends on the service these talents receive, no service no goals, but I think Falcoa has got that bit extra, I think he’d pick up the ball from midfield or deeper and run at the defence, if he could not find any space up front not that Torres is lacking in his milage or commitment during a game. my 2 cents worth. up the blues

Tottaly disagree with this statement in this artical, Falcou has always been a Chelsea target. From his Porto days, he is also a Chelsea fan and said he would love one day to play for his club he supported as a boy. I think he will be a great signing should it happen. However i feel this is pure speculation just for his Club Athletico to bumper him with a higher contract. In terms of holding Torres back if he signs is total rubbish as Torres has to compete for his role in the Spanish national team ie VILLA, Llorenta, and so on. On Danial Sturridge i personally think he is leaving in January plus he plays a ver selfish game thats why this Falcou deal is talked about. Lukuku again will be a Chelsea leagend and he will be the next Drogba for us. He needs games time that is why he is on loan at WestBrom. I just hope him along with Mcheran, De Bryne, Hutchison, Kallas, Van alt holt, Courtiou, Bruma, Chaloba, and Mexican kid Davila we loaned him out a Dutch Outfit cant remember the name. I just hope they all come back great players.

Bringing falcao 2 standford bridge d sky is our limit, cos he’s extremely gud

  • Damian says:

Torres is a gud player no doubt but for now is very far from falcao facao is very gud at placing the ball at the right angle and knows when to do the placing i think d only thing i av not seen in him is if he has a shot from distance left to me falcao coming to chelsea will wake torres up bcos competition always make way for improvement check d likes of man citi and all their stickers are they not world class so i wonder why people will say torres , falcao and selfish stock fish is 2 much 4 chelsea .

Well I am not a Chelsea fan or supporter, but I think Falcao is the best striker option for Chelsea. He will certainly fill the gap left by Drogba because he has the strength, skill, pace, and power. He can win games on his own like Messi and Ronaldo, something that Torres is lacking of. I think Falcao is a class ahead of Torres. But if you could ask me my choice I could prefer Chelsea not signing Falcao and keeping Torres because I don’t wish them will.

We only talk then do nothing. Get Falcao now b4 some other clubs do.
