The most bemusing decision made this summer? It has to be Liverpool’s decision to let their £35m striker Andy Carroll go on loan to West Ham. It’s left the Reds drastically short of options and by now, I’m sure that their fans are sick and tired of hearing about what they lack.

The truth is, however, the sooner January arrives for the Reds, the better. They’re just not making any ground in the Premier League and look set for another disappointing season. Only adding a genuine striking talent to this side can stop the rut.

After all, there’s only so much that Luis Suarez can do. The Uruguayan is talented, no doubt, but since his arrival in England he’s hardly been known for his goal-scoring. There’s an extreme amount of pressure on him to score goals this season and whilst he’s started strong, he’s still missing more opportunities than he scores.

Fabio Borini may prove to be a smart addition, but as things stand currently, he input is likely to be fairly minimal. Something has to give.

All of which makes you wonder how Brendan Rodger’s felt when he heard Demba Ba’s agent express how his client Demba Ba was ‘unhappy’ with his role at Newcastle.

This was a man, let’s not forget, who had a strangely cheap release clause written into his contract (a clause that has since expired). He’s a player that could have improved the side without costing a fortune, though it’s not clear that the player was even on the club’s radar this summer.

Emirates 24/7 have noted that Ba could be the man to fill the gap in Liverpool’s side this January.

Ba was absolutely explosive against Everton last Monday. The very definition of a super-sub, he stormed off the bench, grabbed two goals and turned the game on its head. It was a sensational performance that basically screamed: ‘play me, or lose me’.

Of course, Alan Pardew may well opt to play him more often as a result and Ba may find himself settling down at the club. But if there is a sense of lingering unhappiness there, I can’t help but hope that Liverpool make enquiries. He’s a naturally goal-scorer, the likes of which the Reds just don’t have in their side. He could be just the January pick-up that Brendan Rodgers needs.

What’s your take? Would Demba Ba be a good addition at Anfield?
