After a relatively uneventful summer for Tottenham and a 2-1 defeat against Newcastle, Spurs finally look to be springing into life. It was clear from their performance this weekend that there’s a lot of work to be done to get this side competing for a top four finish and many fans have been clamouring for signings. Well, they’ve tied up a deal for Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor and it looks like there’s more to come.

According to The Daily Mail, Tottenham look set to sign Willian from Shakhtar Donetsk for a £20m fee and have also reignited their interest in Brazilian ace Leandro Damiao. I’m sure this story will be music to fan’s ears. These are players who would improve the squad significantly and may well be instrumental to any chance of success this season.

Whilst the signing of Adebayor bolsters Tottenham’s strike-force, many still feel that there’s more work to be done in this department. Jermaine Defoe is 29-years-old and Adebayor is 28-years-old, so maybe it’s time to bring in someone younger. Leandro Damiao would be the perfect addition.

The 23-year-old Olympic silver medallist has been a long-term target for Tottenham, and his proficiency and ease in front of goals would be a real asset for Spurs.

Willian is another midfielder, who has spent his time at Shakhtar as a winger or attacking midfielder. It could we be that Spurs see him as a replacement for Luka Modric should the Croatian move on this summer. In his time in the Ukraine he has scored 19 goals in 129 games and developed a reputation for providing ammunition for strikers. He’s got quick feet, great close control and can move the ball around with pace.

As you’d expect from a Brazilian footballer, he’s an extremely confident lad and he’s got bags of potential. At 24-years-old he’s got his best years in front of him and now would be the right time to snap him up. If the Daily Mail’s claims are true and Tottenham are close to snapping him up, then you can’t help but feel optimistic about the rest of the season.

The combination of these two signings may well be too much to bear! Let’s hope that Andre Villas-Boas can pull it off.

What’s your take? Would Willian and Damiao be good additions at White Hart Lane?

Do I love the transfer window, hate it or what? I just don’t know anymore??!! I still think Damiao is ours cos the rumours just won’t go away, but more than that, if you recall previous windows, Inter were prepared to sell but wanted the player until the end of their season. I really do think Ade was priority for start of our season, knowing Damiao won’t arrive before January. This is a bit of dreamy optimism….. but… perhaps the rather large release clause is to keep other interested parties at bay??!!
