The £6.3m solution to Liverpool’s ineffective attack?

That’s more like it. I was slightly thrown through a loop by hearing Brendan Rodgers claim that he’d like to look at loan options for Liverpool. Like many fans I want to see Liverpool build towards a future where success is a regular occurrence. I just don’t see how this can happen when the club’s looking for a temporary solution to a permanent problem (more on my thoughts here).

What I want to see is Brendan Rodgers going after talent that can improve the squad and tying them down with long-term deals. Like he did with Fabio Borini and like he looks to be doing with Swansea City midfielder Joe Allen. I was worried that that might be it. Thankfully, however, the links keep flying in. Whether they have any substance, however, remains to be seen.

According to ominous sounding ‘Turkish sports media outlets’, Liverpool are looking to make a move for Besiktas winger Ricardo Quaresma. What’s that? Liverpool linked to a bonafide International footballer? Hurrah!

I recognize that Liverpool are making signings on a budget at the moment. Circumstances have changed and there’s just no countenancing spending big money like Kenny Dalglish did last summer. But that shouldn’t stop Liverpool hunting down top talent and trying to carve out a mean bargain. And I’d say that Quaresma would be a bargain. The Portuguese International is currently valued at £6.3m

At 28-years-old, he’s currently in his peak. He’s got 32 caps for Portugal and has played for Barcelona, Inter Milan and Chelsea (though he made only 5 appearances in total).

He’s a notoriously tricky character, with fleet feet and a great deal of confidence. He’s pacey and direct and tends to cause defenders a problem whenever he’s in the mood. He’s also capable of playing on either wing, which is ideal for Liverpool who are currently struggling on both flanks.

With Jordan Henderson and Stewart Downing failing to pull the strings, Quaresma may be the perfect solution.

Yes, his disciplinary history may not be clean, but you get the feeling that he must be itching to play regular football once more having been cast into the wilderness by Besiktas. Besides, I’m sure Brendan Rodgers can handle his temperament.

He’s available at a bargain price and would improve the squad significantly. He’s the kind of player who may be able to help the Reds back up into a Champions League slot. So shouldn’t the Liverpool hierarchy go for it?

What’s your take? Would Quaresma be a good addition at Anfield?

Your judging him purely on his international status. If you had ever really watched much of him you would know he isnt much of a player. There is a reason he is at the club he’s at now. I’ll let you try and use your brain for once.

Your right mate, 28 doesn’t really make a difference to me, Queresma was once talked highly of in the same breath as Ronaldo and at the time was a good player who showed promise but for along time now his promise hasn’t materialised, it would be a waste of money to bring him in, even as a loan deal.

  • Red$4eva says:

Wing play is lacking in the present set up. Quaresma gives a potentially gilt edged sharpness to the offensive profile. Manuel Vargas and Ramirez would add depth on the wings as would Afellay on a loan deal. Attack is where there are massive holes in BRs new template given the set of players available to implement it. The gommel game this week will expose this flaw in my humble opinion.

Hopefully not for us. It’s too late for him to be redeemed I believe… he has waited too long to get his act together.

Brendan is doing terribly poorly in the transfer market – already lost out to Spurs and now he has talked himself into a corner with Joe Allen – Swansea want £20 million now he has made it so obvious he wants him – VERY POOR MANAGEMENT SKILLS – LFC – TOO BIG FOR HIM ??

  • Bill says:

FSG have got it badly wrong employing Rogers.

    • Seymour says:

Sheesh – give the guy a go!

He did a decent job at Swansea and will need time to build his vision…he showed he could get a well drilled side with few stars can play well with reasonable success.

Liverpool would have liked to have seen their team perform in his style last year. Enforcing this vision will not come overnight, and there is 3 weeks of transfer window left.

I would have liked to seen him at the Lane, surely there is greater optimism with Brendy at the helm than the blinkered dino you had last yr?

PS Rodgers like wingers, this guy has talent but known for not delivering…feels high risk unless got at a bargain price.

jeesh….you last couple of muppets really sum up what is wrong with the modern day supporter, you’re so fickle & haven’t got a clue.
BR will prove you all wrong & i hope you’re words choke you…..

    (your)!!

  • anssen says:

Instead of looking for players we should be looking who will be the next manager of LFC.

  • Niven says:

At that price he could be a great impact player who will push first team players to perform. Also Aleen realise clause is 15mil for any of the big clubs therefore we may not pay a cent more or less. he would have done better with a war chest afforded to Dalgish.

I’m very happy i don’t personally know any of you because you must be the most miserable life draining cunts known to man. type of people that would have turned the TV off 3-0 down at Istanbul and muttered how they never thought Rafa had it in him. Despicable, stop acting like chelsea fans

  • Although Ricardo Quaresma, would be a better option, than most of our under achieveing, midfield players of last season, ie Downing, Spearing, Henderson, Adam and Kuyt, although Kuyt was not used IMO as often as he should have been? over the likes of Henderson and even Spearing. I know its going to take a bit of time, before we are challenging the top teams, for the top 4 champions league spots, but if Brenden Rodgers could just get enough money to buy Gaston Ramirez, and Huntelaar,or even Demba Ba, and maybe Joe Allen, who is the most likely of them all, to be signed? we would have a decent chance of achieveing a top 4 finnish. Im just frustrated at the moment, in the fact that last years signings, didn`t excite me one bit when Kenny and Comolli brought them in, and im sorry too say, Brendens first signing Borini, hasin`t exactly made me feel full of confidence and excitement for this coming season! I hope im wrong? but only time will tell. LFC4Life.

  • Niven says:

We are a club with a big ego presently and that is all. we cannot finish 8th in a league and proclaim to be a big club with only our history to back us up.I think BR will bring a new brand of football that will be competitive as well.

  • Red$4eva says:

It’s a no brainer so don’t strain your only brain cell. Check out you tube Ricardo Quaresma super skil 2010 – 2012 you’ll find even where he’s at he is far better than say… Downing or Allen. lol. For 6 millionish opposed to £20 mill paid for Downing, Henderson. The skill side of this player could add to LFC’s flair. Chelsea sold him cuz they’ve got too much Ego and too much money and not enough in brain cells.

  • get him soon as proper winger and quality service for Carroll in Rodgers we trust

  • nige says:

    a: better than downing, easy
b: we are on a major budget so may be had cheapish
c: we can’t attract top players, unfortunately
d: at 28 should ld have matured as a player and is peaking

  • liverpoolfan says:

Well his way better than downing and henderson so we rather take him nd sell downing

  • louis. says:

ricardo quaresma=bad tempreament and he playing in turkey and no disrespect to the turkish league…he cant cut it at a top league or top club i.e bacra=fail chelsea=fail inter milan=fail 32 caps for portugal who havent got the best team if u take out ronaldo, nani and meireles says it all 6.3million could be spent on better players e.g tello.JUST SAY NO TO QUARESMA!!!!

  • promise says:
