Should Arsenal play ball with this Barcelona swap-deal?

Barcelona starlet Cristian Tello has been linked to all and sundry during this summer’s transfer window, so I suppose it was only a matter of time before he got linked to Arsenal. After all, the Gunners do have a tendency to go after young talent and Tello is one of European football’s most promising youngsters.

Naturally, the Gunners are currently slap bang in the middle of their annual Barcelona transfer saga. After coming on leaps and bounds over the last couple of years, Alex Song has attracted the notice of the folk at the Nou Camp (Source: The Mirror). No doubt they’re excited by the prospect of him lofting a through-ball over the top of a La Liga defence for Lionel Messi to finish. I’m sure Cesc Fabregas is telling his Barca pals at this very moment that whilst he was at Arsenal, he got to inspect Song pretty closely and is almost certain that he has ‘Barca DNA’.

Anywho, news of Barca’s interest has largely been met with shrugged shoulders by the Arsenal faithful, who just can’t seem to muster up the energy it takes to get invested in yet another club testing one of their player’s loyalties. But I wonder whether levels of interest would rise if some kind of swap deal was proposed.

According to Sport.es, there’s talk of a deal which would see Barca receive Song and send Cristian Tello to the Emirates.

Naturally, I’d be wary of any potential deal for a Barca youngster. As soon as he starts delivering on a regular basis, Barcelona would want him back. And as we’ve seen in the past, they have the pull to make it happen.

But there’s no doubting his potential. The forward is known for his exceptional pace and confidence on the ball. During his best moments, the ball seems tied to his feet in an almost Zinedian fashion. Yes, those who have watched him play will know that he has a tendency to frustrate. But that’s not all that surprising at just 20-years-old.

There’s no saying just how good he can become in the future. He could go on to be one of Spanish football’s most exciting footballers. But there’s no guaranteeing he’d fulfil this potential. Given that he genuinely seems to have the much lauded ‘Barca DNA’ and has a long way to go before fulfilling his potential, perhaps this is a swap deal that the Gunners should look to avoid?

What’s your take? Would an Alex Song for Cristiano Tello swap deal be beneficial for Arsenal?

Definitely worth taking a chance with, if we do sell Song. I do think that we mustn’t be scared to let Alex go. He is a quality player, but doesn’t work as part of a duo like our own Peteit/Viera, Viera/Gilberto combinations. This makes him more replaceable and he is not a high pace player. Etienne Capoue is similar but faster and meaner. Sahin and M’Vila could do the job too. My first choice striker though would not be Tello, it would be Kevin Miralles, who is as good as Eden Hazard in my books and could be bought for a song (no not an Alex Song). So if we do sell him to Barca, this time we want someone in return and Tello is worth a chance. Let’s get that habit together for the future. You take ours we will take yours. Fair.

Wenger will not be selling song, rather he will hard more players to the squared like isco from malaga and sahim from Real madrid. Up gunners

if he chooses to go,he might end up like Hleb.

If we do get tello in return they will buy him back but at what cost?I bet wenger is already rubbing his hands together.personally I think we should keep song but if he goes get the replacement in now before it’s to late.(same with RVP)
