Premier League 2012-2013 Full Preview: Can Manchester United topple Manchester City?

|

Predictably, all eyes will again be on Manchester come May; although, less and less would appear to be on the red half of the city. Despite the fact that Manchester United gifted the previous title to their rivals to let them bathe in the limelight, Sir Alex Ferguson’s uprooting of Arsenal and Chelsea in the past could resemble Manchester City’s looming fate (either that or they will surely dominate for the foreseeable future). The Red Devil’s age-old resilience means they will certainly be up there at the business end of the forthcoming season.

The purchase of Shinji Kagawa looks to be an invaluable addition, and young prospects like Phil Jones and David De Gea will only flourish under Ferguson’s unique management. Wayne Rooney will continue to lead the line, while what should be Paul Scholes’ final season could prove to be one of hid most arduous and challenging, especially as, without Sir Alex Ferguson’s experienced guidance, the current United squad would surely be in with a minimal chance of recapturing their crown.

Once Manchester City fans had ended their celebrations, commentators had re-found their voices and Sergio Aguero’s goal had been watched over and over again at home by those fans sent delirious on May 13th, the serious questions inevitably arose: is it possible for Manchester City to do it again? Their performance in the Charity Shield confirms them to be red-hot favourites, as does their intensely strong squad, compound of newfound and purchased experience, committed manager and hungry fans. Looking upon those factors again, the question may need to be changed: is it even possible for Manchester City to be removed from their righteous throne?
