In recent weeks, since Arsenal’s Robin Van Persie announced he wasn’t going to sign a new contract and said he wanted to leave the North London outfit, there has been speculation to the fullest on where he will end up next season. It is clear that the main three options are Manchester United, Manchester City and Juventus. (Source: The Metro)

Now at the same time as this, at Old Trafford, Dimitar Berbatov’s agent has come out and said his client wants to leave Manchester United (Source: TalkSport). Berbatov later took to Facebook to confirm that he feels he is better off playing his football somewhere else. If and when Berbatov does leave it opens up a gap in the strike force for the Red Devils. A pretty impressive strike force as it is, with Rooney leading the way as Commander-in-chief and being supported by Mexican Javier Hernandez and England international Danny Welbeck. With the release of Michael Owen the only real replacement in the front line is Italian Federico Macheda. So a new striker is needed at United.

However, after watching the Euro 2012 tournament this summer, I was impressed with Poland striker Robert Lewandowski. He is big, powerful and showed great ability both in the air and with the ball at his feet. But just who is this man who has been reportedly attracting major interest from Manchester United? He is a man who has scored 30 goals in 67 league appearances, with 22 of those goals coming last season in 34 appearances. He has scored 13 goals in 38 caps for Poland. And he is also a fundamental figure behind Borussia Dortmund’s latest resurgence which has seen them win back to back Bundesliga titles and not to mention the German Super cup – beating Bayern Munich 5-2 in the final.

Lewandowski has achieved this at the age of only 23. He has set himself up for a good career in football if he makes the right choices. Lewandowski would cost United realistically just over half of the transfer fee Arsenal would like for Van Persie and could potentially give United something that Van Persie doesn’t give anyone: commitment and loyalty. This move, should it go through, would make Robert Lewandowski United’s second signing from Dortmund, following the arrival of Japanese midfielder Shinji Kagawa last month. In regards to this move and that of Van Persie I guess its a case of “watch this space.”
