Just how promising is Ranger’s re-birth?

With one week remaining before the transfer window closes, Rangers boss Ally McCoist has being doing his best Simon Cowell impression as trialist after trialist has jetted in hoping to try and catch his eye.

Young French and Greek defenders Sebastian Faure and Ansetsis Argyriou have earned contracts and it’s expected there will be further additions as McCoist attempts to bolster his squad.

The Ibrox club have no option but to push the boat out now in terms of snapping up new signings as part of their agreement to gain membership of the Scottish Football Association dictates they will be barred from making acquisitions in the following two transfer windows.

Rangers already have a squad capable of winning the Third Division at a canter but McCoist is still keen on pursuing possible new players to add, with former Dundee United midfielder Morgaro Gomis and Malmo forward Daniel Larsson being linked to the Glasgow giants.

However, there has been one name who has been revealed as a new man who will be part of the new Rangers and will probably be just as important to the revival of the clubs fortunes and that is Arif Naqvi.

He may not be pulling on the boots but the Dubai based businessman will be expected to help Rangers to restore their financial credibility after pumping around £2 million pounds into the Ibrox coffers.

The Pakistani is the chief executive of private equity firm Abraaj Capital and  now the biggest single shareholder with a stake of 23% of the clubs shares.

The news has been greeted with a cautious welcome from the Rangers support, who have slowly but surely been convinced that Charles Green is not another charlatan like Craig Whyte and may well deliver on his promises.

Green assured fans of the Govan club he would be announcing who was investing in the club at a time when many questions where being asked and suspicions being raised about him and his fellow consortium member’s intentions were being raised.

During his short tenure as Rangers chief executive the brash Yorkshireman has been unafraid of speaking his mind challenging the collective wisdom and motivations of those who run the Scottish game.

To the outsider, his comment about the decision to punish the Ibrox club for their financial mismanagement being driven by ‘bigotry’ has been seen as a tasteless attempt to try and win over the Rangers’ support.

At their first match of the season Green was also seen applauding as the Rangers support chanted about their contempt for SFA chief executive Stewart Regan, so it seems only a matter of time before he is awarded honorary membership of the clubs most vocal group, the Blue Order.

And last Saturday he was strutting his stuff around Ibrox akin to PT Barnum, taking the mic before kick off declaring his enthusiasm for Rangers and disrespect for the governing bodies.

Now you can say what you like about his style but it’s certainly proving productive in terms of ensuring fans of the Light Blues will not be abandoning their club during its time of need as season ticket sales have now reached the 36.000 figure.

Indeed an amazing 49,118 packed into the stadium for the clubs first ever match in the lowest tier of Scottish football against East Stirlingshire, a stat which made headlines all over the world.

Of course it’s very early days in the rebirth of the blues but already the signs are promising that Green, McCoist and now Naqvi may be planting the building blocks which could see Rangers hit the heady heights again.

Indeed it could be sooner rather than later if talk of yet another reconstruction of the Scottish game is to be believed.

But lets not touch on that thorny subject until next week.

This is absolutely hilarious. And the fact that not one Sevconian has chosen to comment speaks volumes. Re-birth indeed. The only thing re-born is the special relationship with the refereeing fraternity. Oldco/Newco-same old same old.

The only thing certain right now is that the brand new club would, if it were to happen, be reaching the heady heights of the top division , FOR THE FIRST TIME!
And that is becoming less of a certainty unless the Refs continue to show the kind of favours todays man in the middle displayed.
What should have been a great day for the REAL Rangers on the park today was turned into travesty as he chose to deny Berwick a perfectly good goal right at the death. I’m also not convinced as to the offside decision earlier.
John. The reason you don’t see any newco fans posting is probably due to embarrassment!

  • Iain says:

Just imagine what the jack booted followers of Sevco will be like when they find out their club is owned not by a White Anglo Saxon Protestant of the political right but by a Pakistani gentleman of the muslim faith , I think this may result in a scarf burning episode not seen since the days of Mo Johnstone.

  • robert says:

It is the same club but they have had to start again from the bottom although if up to the othervspl teams would have been the 2nd! They seem to be doing ok for a team who only just over a month ago only had a few players and had sold a few hundred season tickets. From what was nothing then has grown into 34,000 season tickets and not too bad a squad. I think all involved should be congratulated for going from that to a not bad team and support in 6 weeks!

  • wolfhill says:

Rangers have 140 years of history and counting. The next 3 or 4 years will be very hard but that is the way life is. No one said it was going to be easy. All we can do is try to support them thru thick and thin and there will be bad days!

    • jelly ice cream says:

Are u lot really that stupid Rangers u knew are dead mate soon to be liqudated keep telling yourself that its the same club but its in black and white you are now a sevco supporter ya brainless twat.

  • teamblue says:

Good luck to green and his consorttium. £258 for a season ticket so if iget to see 10 games it is worth it so i cant be ripped off. I hope they stick around for 3 or 4 years but if not they will get us back on track. All we can do is back the team as much as possible and review ar the end of the season.

  • John says:

They are removing and blocking posts. Ha Ha. Hurting or what?

  • teamblue says:

I dont care who is investing in rangers as long as they have the good of the club in their focus. First time this team played together so we will give them time. We are at a low point and times are hard but we support our team thru bad times.

  • pat says:

At £258 for a season ticket then that’s £9.288million they have taken in. They still have the same cost for opening the ground on match day as all the costs for the police and stewards etc. would be the same as the numbers required to steward/police Ibrokes would still be the same whether they are in the SPL or 3rd division. That’s around £325,000 per game (for 20 games that’s around £7million per year). Not much left after that has been paid then !!!!!

  • kev says:

@ Iain. I would suggest that it is YOU that has issues with ones race and religion. I dont see anyone else bringing it up here. The fact that you wrote it is evident to others what YOU are thinking.
It is exactly comments like this that promote hatred to particular groups, and frankly i dont see why this has been mentioned when we are discussing Rangers re-birth.

  • unsympathetic says:

robert and wolfhill, you both still clearly think that this new rangers is RFC when it is not. RFC PLC is no more therefore RFC is no more and no before you say it, I am not a celtic fan trying to rub it in, I simply dont look at the rangers situation through blue or green tinted glasses and can understand that this isn’t the ‘oldco’ rangers, its a new company, a new team and a fresh start so the sooner fans who still refer to them as ‘rangers’ accept this, the better

  • trueblue says:

its pathetic while rangers are in the third division the unwashed are still paranoid about us it just shows me how bigoted and sad this lot of immigrants really are

  • mulsiebhoy says:

Are you familiar with the concept of irony, Trueblue? In the same sentence, you accuse posters of being bigots, whilst lazily and ignorantly referring to them as immigrants! Fucking moron…and for the record, Sevco were rank fucking rotten yesterday..Fran Sandaza? PMSFL Hail Hail x

    • Patrick says:

      muisiebhoy

why do you lower yourself to their standards with your foul mouthed rant?

Don’t you realise that being able to express yourself without swearing is on of the things that makes us different from them?

      Hail! Hail!

  • Patrick says:

Didn’t take long for the foul mouthed bigots to react to the original comment.

Right now Sevco have no history and indeed are living up to their motto ” we don’t do winning away.”

  • mulsiebhoy says:

Hardly a foul-mouthed rant, Patrick, but I do accept the point you make, with good grace. Apologies, Hail Hail x

  • boabobski says:

well im a rangers fan and all you other ‘fans'(i doubt you even go to your teams game) are obsessed about if were old new or just something blue which proves the point that we are the same team because it is still driving you all demented that were still here the most successful of them all.cause if we had died then why would you still be on here trying to wind up fans of a team you no longer have a rivalry with cause that would leave you with no-one to spout your hatred at now your wife would have to take the brunt of that now wouldnt she! Rangers then now forever!

  • mulsiebhoy says:

Lol, this is comedy gold! Never in my natural, have I read a piece of ‘literature’ which contains only one comma/full-stop in a 100+word diatribe! Surely another ‘world record’ Hail Hail x

  • zobs says:

Not one true rangers fan posting? Must be cause we are all too busy trolling the internet for selik stories to actually notice any about the Rangers. Gwa and see your own team ya gumps, not one mention of scum on here
