The 2012-13 season in English football is already knocking on the door and just like any other campaign, Liverpool will be one of the teams whose performances will be carefully followed during the competitive year

The Reds appointed Brendan Rodgers, 39, as a manager in June setting him the task of bringing the glorious days back at Anfield.

Rodgers is a charismatic figure, that can give a lot to Liverpool and, besides, he has a completely clear vision on how the club should operate. The former Swansea manager possesses a lot of advantages which compensate for his lack of working experience at top clubs.

First of all, Rodgers is probably the only manager in the world, who can blend the managing styles of the best coaches in the world, Josep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho, in one. Rodgers learned from Mourinho (while working together at Chelsea) how to behave with his players, how to motivate them and how to create a friendly atmosphere inside the team. Establishing a strong bond between manager and his players is also an important piece of Rodgers’s philosophy, borrowed from Mourinho. On the other hand, when it comes to football style, the Northern Irishman prefers to construct his team the way Guardiola did in Barcelona – building his side’s attacks by piling on the passes and presenting an attractive playing style, which entertain fans. It worked brilliantly at Swansea, but only time will tell if the same approach will be successful at Liverpool.

Another of Rodgers’s positive features is the fact he is still young and energetic. He is able to transmit his passion to the players, but at the same time remain calm, without letting his emotions obsess his mind and play a role in taking hard decisions. The communication between the manager and his players will be easier as well. Liverpool needed a leader with fresh ideas and modern views of the game, which could help The Reds see the end of the awful crisis they have been suffering in the past few years, and Rodgers might be the right man to complete this task.

Considering the current Liverpool squad, it can be concluded that the new manager might need to fortify the central defenders’ zone. Daniel Agger is a key centre back and he will not be able to be replaced adequately in a short period of time, if he leaves the club, as it is rumoured. Carragher is already 34 and should not be seen as a permanent option for the starting lineup. So, the only partnership that can be formed would be between Skrtel and Coates.

They are both talented players, but haven’t played together at all and the Uruguayan still needs to improve his game, if he wants to play regularly. It is said that Liverpool want to attract Ashley Williams from Swansea, or Diego Godin from Atletico Madrid. They both may appear to be a good acquisition, but this will not decide Rodgers’s problems. The manager has not only to gather the necessary players for the defense, but help them build a solid and reliable line in front of Pepe Reina, by working alongside them.

the way, the 39-year-old manager is known for his desire to inculcate as many young players as possible. This must be great news for lads like Danny Wilson, Jon Flanagan and Jack Robinson, who may be given more opportunities during the season.
