Arsenal are making smart signings, but will they be able to forgive a remorseful Robin Van Persie?

|

In a year of U-Turns, we may see another, not at Westminster but on the other side of the river this time. The Daily Star reports that Robin Van Persie is reconsidering his contract offer from Arsenal after being so impressed with the North London club’s summer signings thus far, especially recent buy Santi Carzola. If claims are to be believed, Robin Van Persie will wave a £220,000 per week offer from Manchester City and stay at Arsenal with the likes of new boys Oliver Giroud, Lucas Podolski and Carzola.

Santi Carzola has been capped 45 times for Spain, and was the surprise inclusion in Spain’s EURO 2008 winning squad. Although he missed out on the 2010 World Cup due to injury, the 27 year old still boasts two European Championship Winners Medal’s  at International level. He was named the 2007 Spanish player of the year, following in the footsteps of Raul, Xavi and Xabi Alonso. Starting his career at Villareal, in 2006 Carzola moved to Recreativo before rejoining Villereal in 2007. 2011 saw the crafty winger, who can also play through the middle, hook up with Malaga, it is thought that Arsenal have payed the club a figure in the reigon of £15m for his services.

With RVP seemingly renewing his interest with Arsenal following their dealings in the transfer market, will this be music to fans ears or has the Dutchman burnt his bridges?

Robin Van Persie is a player with the potential of playing world class football, like we saw in the calender year of 2011, but one regular criticism of him is that for his first six seasons at Arsenal he failed to live up to his promise and it was only in 2011, seven years on from switching leaving Feyenoord, that the forward ‘came to the party’. Another down side to the 28-year-old is his injury history, a well documented feature of RVP’s career.

However, Robin Van Persie has led Arsenal well, has now shown that he can deliver and deserves to prove that he can perform on a consistent basis. Wayne Rooney famously linked himself with a move away from Old Trafford and is still at Manchester United and has now been forgiven by most of the red devils contingent, could Van Persie emulate this? I believe so, a good string of performances and hopefully (for his sake especially) the Arsenal fans can forgive and forget allowing RVP to get back to doing what he does best; playing football.

AHHH THIS RVP HAS LOST MY POINTS 4 ALL THAT WE HAVE DONE FOR HIM PAYING THOU NOT PLAYING DUE TO HIS ON GOING INJURIES & NOW HE WANTS TO QUIT SO HE MUST LEAVE HE CANT B OUR LEGEND WE HAVE ALREADY.

WE WERE GOONERS WE ARE & WE WILL REMAIN GOONERS WITH OR WITHOUT HIM

    • COYG says:

Check through every statement of RvP’s and you will find that NEVER has he ever stated that he wanted to leave. He merely stated that he would not be renewing his contract as he felt the club didn’t match his ambitions. It was the media NOT RvP that said he wanted out.

Dont be fooled. Van Persie practically instigated our signings this summer. Be grateful.

      • Destr0 says:

two of which were before his statement came out….

        • COYG says:

So RVP stalling on contract talks throughout the Euros didn’t make the club sit and go “we need a back-up plan”, then?

Enough with the “two of which were before his statement came out…” comments.
He is still an Arsenal player and until he leaves he should be treated as such.

  • aleilo hamed olalekan says:

We arsenal fan are ready to forgive RVP once he put hand to paper that he extend is contract.Gonners 4 life

  • jeremy says:

If RVp goes to MU and helps rf to win the epl and cl,blame Wenger. The warning signs players were fed up with his tippy tappy soccer the last five years. Yet he persisted with it.
If Arsenal can’t compete for the epl even with the new signings that’s it. He shd be off asap.
Frankly he has too long a lease as manager with outwinning anything.

    • aku says:

the best manager ever – arsene wenger
the best club ever – arsenal
      put ur faith dude…

    • COYG says:

Who bought RVP in the first place when no other managers gave a shit. Wenger. Without AW, RvP would still be a nobody. Show some respect. If RvP chooses to leave then he leaves. We’ll survive. No player is bigger than the badge on the front of the shirt

      Besides, he’s not leaving anyway.

  • 4 his (rvp) performances last season is arsnl great player and also he (rvp) can do source thing dis new season, rvp stay with arsenal.

  • AB says:

You are a complete idiot! Without Arsene, Arsenal will not be were they are today you fool! Shut your mouth up if you don’t know what you are talking about.

  • Democracy Chijioke says:

If RVP finally rescinds his decision and signs anoda contract with Arsenal fc dat will be great becos our firepower upfront will be superb. Gunners 4 life

  • Aina olanrewaju says:

I personally will be glad if RVP can make a u-turn and sign a new deal for arsenal and if he doesn’t then personally i won’t forgive him easily cos i really wish he cld be one of arsenal legend….

  • Akoi says:

I will forgive VP if he decides to stay with Arsenal and put pen to paper. I will give him my love like before. It will suggest to me that his decision and statement motivated Arsene to signed quality players and proves we have ambition. To him i will say bravo.

    • mogooner says:

      Dude ,

2 of our 3 signings have been done before rvp came out with his shameful statement… what are u talking about ?!?!

      • Don’t mind the guy saying Van Persie’s statement motivated Arsene to sign players. He is obviously not following the news all along. RVP made the most shameful statement about the team that stood by him all the years.

All the while that he was being injured and Arsenal stood by him, he did not remember he wanted mony or that the club lacked ambition. He just stays fit for one year and plays well and suddenly he wants a more ambitious club. He can go to hell

    • aku says:

      agree with u akoi,
he push the way with style, now we got cazorla, myb sahin n many more..
he is our captain, the true leader, with his passion…be grateful mate..

  • Jacko88 says:

Jeremy u r a retarded fuckface who knows nothing abt football.. Please ahut the fuck up coz u arent a true goooner.. Ur a wanker whos a glory hunter. Go support mancity will ya? In arsene we trust!!! Arsenal for life!

  • Alex jackson says:

Yes without rvp Arsenal we always remain ontop he met us ontop if qe make a u turn so be am ready 2 4 give him n if he goes on dat is 4 him we stil remain big club in europ n i belive we ar in it 2 win trophy dis season.ARSENAL is biger dan anybody ok

  • Wiz says:

That proves the importence of someone who can play well in the midfield. Cazola is the most important player we signed all these years. Signing him gives us a greater chance of winning the league. I knew all along that what RVP was doing is to get quality to the team when he said it all, he didn’t intend to leave.

  • Chuks says:

All you gunners fans who are calling for the sack of ARSENE, I tell you this, not even the might Mourinho would achieve success under our very own board. We loose top players every season who we never replaced. But for the first time in almost a decade, proven players are been linked and brought in. Arsene loves this club if not he would have since been a history because top European clubs have been after him but he choses to stay and complete the work he started with Arsenal. In ARSENE I trust.

  • jeremy says:

So jacko is a top soccer expert. Ancelotti won the Fa cup and yet was axed. Wenger has won nothing.See the difference.
Well don’t be surprised RVP finally joins the red faced .My greatest wish is for Arsenal to pip the rf to the epl. Then the decision to off load RVP will have been vindicated.

  • ketepling master says:

shining in one season out of seven is a very poor performance,i just want him to leave coz he ain’t what we need.

  • Tony Gooner says:

The role of the captain includes having the ability to mediate between the team and the management. If RVP has kicked the management up the backside with his actions he will have achieved what Cesc Sami and Henry failed to do.
Arsenal FC is not a footall farm breeding players for others to benefit from whilst lacking the ambition to secure silverware for itself. From his actions there seem to have been an immediate change in management attitude and the hand has gone in the pocket. If he now stays he will have shown himself to be a true gooner and the most able captain of Arsenal FC that we have had for a long time. If he goes we should thank him for is service in bringing about the change in attitude and get back to the business of winning trophies without him. Up the Gunners

  • manucho says:

u-turn is wat I don’t thnk rvp will do, my opinion is y can he jst extend his contract, play with the new arsenal boys n if it doesn’t wrk u leave, but by stating u r not resigning give wenger no choice but 2 sale u this transfer. Rvp as a gunner am tired of this all thng, n speculation of possibly man- u closing in to sign rvp, that we cannot forgive u never, tha badge at the front is bigger than the name at the back.

  • barbes13 says:

at every top cllub players interest and ambition must be considered, especially when such a player become indispensible. after all, RVP was right. the impetus behind his request has probably entice arsenal to purchase quality players inorder for him to stay which i’m somehow convince will occur at the end of the day. RVP is a professional footballer who understand the nitty-gritty surrounding being a victor or a victim in this game of football for time wait for no man. RVP has no reason to leave AFC and if he does it will be the wish of the club board not his. in this intance, i will tagged arsenal a selling club instead.

  • salas says:

if he still want to live let him be at list we are Arsenal before him and we will still be arsenal forever but if it was to stay there is room for forgiveness

  • arse-jyssi says:

Please learn how to spell Santi’s name correctly. He deserves it.
