Why this £40m man would be more than just a reactionary signing for Manchester United:

|

Want to get on in your footballing career? Show up at the Euros! Near enough every player who put in a decent performance over the course of the competition has found themselves linked with a move away from their club. Good performances, from the likes of Alan Dzagoev have earned him plenty of links to Premier League clubs, whilst a string of good performances from the likes of Joao Moutinho have earned him a massively inflated price-tag.

According to The Mirror, Moutinho has had his head ‘turned’ by interest from Manchester United. Apparently Fergie is duking it out with Tottenham for the Portuguese’s signature. Spurs view him as a potential replacement for Luka Modric, whilst the Red Devil’s view him as the solution to their midfield woes.

With Paul Scholes unable to go on forever (much to the chagrin of United fans) it’s high time that Fergie looked into bolstering his midfield (which is probably they lost the Premier League last season). Signing Shinji Kagawa from Borussia Dortmund is a step in the right direction, but the feeling remains that there is work to be done in this department.

The Mirror claim that Moutinho has a £40m buy-out clause in his FC Porto contract, but that his club side may be prepared to sell for just £30m. So would this be a good signing for United, or just a reactionary one after an impressive showing at the Euros (penalty miss aside)

First up, there’s no use pretending that this guy has only just burst onto the scene. Much like how pundits have only just started to fawn over Pirlo (despite his numerous successes over the years) us fans and pundits only seem to have just discovered Moutinho. But he’s 25-years-old and has been around for some time now.

He’s been an integral part of FC Porto’s back-to-back domestic title winning side and his team’s success in the Europa League. He made 43 appearances last season and 53 appearances the season before. He’s got vision and guile and can craft a pass just about as well as anybody else in world football.

Manchester United have been constantly linked to the likes of Wesley Sneijder and Luka Modric, but Moutinho may well prove to be a more cost effective solution. Manchester United have plundered Portugal successfully before and the time may well be right for them to try again.

What’s your take? Would Moutinho be a good signing for Manchester United, or should Fergie look elsewhere?

modric nd witsel nd lewndosky ok 4us

  • Shaun says:

A similar player to cabaye i think. I have no doubt he would be a good player….. But 30m??

I would leave it at that. If SAF wants is looking for ‘value in the market’, then this isn’t it. Its dangerous to buy a player on the back of a successful tournament. karel Perborsky anyone?

The only player i can realistically see moving with the quality required to transform the team, and for the lure of first team football, would be Thiago Alcantara – And he will be as good as Xavi and iniesta in a few years time. 30-35m would be a worthwhile spend and he fits our target profile.

  • Emmawhiteman2015 says:

I think he’s good(Moutinho) with him or Modric on utd midfield,Leighton Baines or Willems as our deputy left back and James Rodriquez or Lewandowski on our front line that will pose a threat to our rivals.Pls SAF do all u can to keep the team lively.Utd we stand 4eva..

  • alukogu obioha says:

we need him. we need mifielder who are close to the ground ‘los bajitos’. very creative and can hold the ball well. another midfielder alternative is required to stiffen up in the name of ‘chioke tiote’ of newcastle. utd should be concluding these tranfers soon so we can concentrate on pre-season.

  • Happiness says:

That amount is to much for him why should we by him at that amount, although he is a good player but i prefer modric or ganso

  • LUCIO says:
