Why Celtic should watch their back after the Ranger’s vote:

Peter Lawell the Celtic Chief Executive may wake up on the morning after the SPL vote and find that his world has been turned upside down. With Rangers having been voted out of the SPL and a power shift about to happen within the Scottish game at the top level,  this must have been one consequence of Rangers downfall that the Celtic head must have seen coming. For all the bigotry and hatred between the clubs, Rangers and Celtic have been in bed with each other since they began.

The Old Firm clubs voted as a pair on every financial issue and, under the current requirement of an 11-1 majority required for change, effectively exercised a veto.

Sharing power has suited the Glasgow clubs and allowed them to dominate the others. The eleven to one veto only benefited Rangers and Celtic and was instrumental in keeping the so-called lesser clubs in their place. The deck was always fixed to favour the big two. Now that the decision making will be fair and balanced, sporting integrity can return to the Scottish game, Celtic will have to wake up and smell the coffee.

There are now no longer just two teams in the top flight that matter, there are twelve. Votes that the other clubs had were as useless as a chocolate fire guard when Rangers and Celtic were married and living in the SPL. Now that the divorce has taken place, Celtic has to start courting a new sweetheart to take the place of Rangers.

Celtic has some painful making up to do to the other clubs after all the years of domination and shared self-interest with Rangers on and off the park. This may not be easy and Celtic may find out that with the other clubs a taste of honey may be their new mantra. Celtic now find themselves just one club amongst twelve. How Celtic cope with that will be interesting to see.

How will the relationship develop between Celtic and the rest of the league? If the Rangers scenario is to be used as an example, then the rest of the SPL have been hiding a level of hatred that once at the surface demanded the spilling of blood.

Peter Lawell and Celtic must hope they have not misjudged the mood of the other SPL clubs and their fans. The other clubs – the Gang of ten – intend to use this chance to force through a required majority of 9-3. Celtic fear that this will be used by the other clubs to force through such measures as sharing gate receipts – a substantial resource for them.

Football fans have long memories and that chance to even up the score will surely be on the minds of the directors and supporters of these clubs. If these clubs can inflict such damage on Rangers by using their vote then they must surely realise that they are not as powerless as they were once portrayed, and may decide to train their sights on what’s left of the Old Firm partnership which kept them downtrodden for so long. When Peter Lawell and the Celtic support wake up on the morning after the night before, they may indeed need that strong cup of coffee.

this is driving me nuts, this 75 Hearts fans reasoning. Who cares. We are the big player in the SPL, solely Celtic. We are founded on the fabric of goodwill and helping others. If Celtic, like PL said, wants to help other teams I am all for it.

Some years ago, St. Pauli almost went bankrupt, it was their main rivals Bayern Munich that helped them out and helped save the club. A gesture that has never been forgotten.

Celtic need to step up as a club and lay foundations with the other clubs by sharing gate receipts, as such creating a league of parity in which we will always be a big player. But it will be a league fun to watch, without bigotry and bile and hatred.

We have this massive opportunity now, lets take it.

I will never get the few minutes back that it took me to read this ‘article’. What a complete pile of nonsense. Surely written by some bitter fan of Rfc (il).

I wont be revisiting this site again that is for sure. Jim Trayner is correct on one thing at least. 90% of blogs/football internet is complete rubbish.

Sorry ‘this is fulbol.com’ but you are in the 90% while you employ people to submit this kind of drivel. J&IC(wrd)

Typical response from a rangers supporter. No integrity whatsoever. Yes, Celtic voted for with Rangers before, but the way in which Rangers have been operating has exposed them as crooked and dishonourable scumbags. Celtic want nothing to do with this and will risk financial losses rather than go along with the unacceptable. There will be gate-sharing, it will not be 50/50 as Celtic will retain season ticket money, as they should, but the other clubs will benefit more from Celtic, as they should.
Celtic will also cede power. This is an opportunity for Scottish football. The game has been dying for years, Rangers started its death with their cheating and financial fraud. It is 20 years since they began spending money they did not have and dragged Scottish football down with them. I fully expect there to be readjustments and hard times but Celtic will lead the way long after the stinking corpse of Cheating Reprobate FC are buried. Onwards and upwards.
