The biggest barrier to the resolution of the Rangers question?

Scottish Football League Chief Executive David Longmuir hopes on Friday the 13th to see a resolution to the problem of Rangers which will “be for the betterment” for all concerned. No pun intended but good luck with that one. David might be better staying in bed that day rather than risk putting a curse on himself from the rest of Scottish football.

Just like many human beliefs, the fear of Friday the 13th isn’t exactly grounded in scientific logic. The really strange thing is that most of the people who believe the day is unlucky offer no explanation at all, logical or illogical. This may be why this unluckiest of days was chosen to decide where Rangers play their football. The process of how to deal with Rangers has been in many ways illogical if, as the rest of the teams in Scotland state, “sporting integrity” must be upheld and put before all else. With some supporters stating that they would rather see their club die than the integrity of the league compromised, then logic must prevail and Rangers should kick off the next chapter in their history in the Scottish third division.

Surely this sounds only fair and just. This is also the solution that the vast majority of Rangers fans agree with. The chance to take our medicine, rebuild and come back stronger. Again logical to listen to the support most affected by this whole situation. But alas no, it is clear that the SFA/SPL, who both operate as committees, are unable to make the right decision.

If Rangers are forced to play in the first division to safeguard television money and against the wishes of the support and most of the teams in the league, then the lie of “sporting integrity” will be exposed as nothing more than a crass sound bite to damage Rangers.

“A committee is composed of people who individually can do nothing, who come together to conclude that nothing can be done.” The SFA/SPL committees now seem like the biggest barrier to change and resolution of the Rangers/Scottish football question. The committees are indecisive and unable to make any serious decision on the Rangers situation. Scottish football is hanging over the edge, clinging on with its finger tips and the committee has done what? Rescheduled to Friday 13th. Unbelievable. And unlucky for some.
