It’s easy to lose track of just how many midfielders Manchester United have been linked to this summer. The Papers (and a variety of online publications) have spotted the need, and followed suit with a barrage of links. Every now and then, they link United to the kind of player that you can’t help but get excited by.

According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United are hot on the trail of Ajax starlet Christian Eriksen. They claim that Eriksen is keen on a move to Old Trafford and that he’d set Sir Alex back around £20m.

That’s a pretty fair price for a player that’s so highly rated amongst pundits and fans alike. He’s widely regarded as one of the best young players in world football and he’s just the kind of footballer that Sir Alex used to chase after. He’s also a player that Sir Alex has professed admiration for in the past. So should United look to snap him up?

He has a Cesc Fabregas-esque ability to find space for himself on the ball and comes complete with good vision and a remarkable range of passing. He can deliver great long balls, decisive through-balls and effective, quick short-range possession keeping passes.

Whilst he’s not entirely proficient in front of goal (in the same fashion as, say… Anderson) the young Dane has scored 7 goals in 33 games. That’s not bad for a midfielder of his age. Besides, surely the purchase of Shinji Kagawa was designed to fill the need for goals in midfield.

There remain some concerns surround his physicality. He’s just 20-years-old and is a little slight which may lead him to struggle against teams that set out to bully and hassle opponents. Whilst this hasn’t really affected him whilst playing for Ajax a move to the Premier League would see him face tougher, more tenacious sides and it’s difficult to know how he’d cope.

The fact is, however, if he’s good enough, he’s good enough. If he’s available for the price quoted by the Mail, then he’d make for an excellent signing. Who knows how good he’ll be in two-three years time? One thing’s for sure, he’ll have a much bigger price-tag. The time’s right for United to strike a deal.

What’s your take? Would Christian Eriksen be a good addition at Old Trafford?
