Top 5 Summer Transfers So Far: Tottenham and Chelsea on top!

|

With 146 million spent already in the summer transfer window, I take a look at the Top 5 signings in the Premier League so far.

1. Eden Hazard (From Lille to Chelsea, Undisclosed fee)

One of the most coveted players in the world has signed for the newly crowned European Champions, bringing a much needed ‘va va voom’ style of play to Chelsea. Roman Abramovich has once again splashed the cash in order to bring stylish and attractive football to Stamford Bridge which it has been lacking in recent years.  An attacking player such as the Belgian was high on the list of summer transfer targets for Chelsea, and he will do brilliantly in the Premier League alongside the likes of Juan Mata and the revived Fernando Torres.

The 21 year old has played 192 times for Lille scoring 50 goals and creating 38 assists!

2. Jan Vertonghen (Ajax to Tottenham, Undisclosed fee)

Spurs have had to wait a long time to get their man, from the last home game of the previous season where Vertonghen was shown around White Hart Lane, they’ll be delighted to have concluded the deal for one of the most highly rated defenders in Europe. Tottenham were in need of a top class centre half following the retirement of club captain Ledley King, and they couldn’t have done much better than the 6ft Belgian.

The 25 year old has already played  241 games in his career scoring 31 goals. Jan is a top quality defender built like a traditional British centre half , I’m sure he’ll be a success at the Lane, alongside Dawson, Kaboul and Gallas.

3. Marko Marin (Werder Bremen to Chelsea,  Undisclosed fee)

Chelsea’s second signing on my top5 list, and its one of the hottest young prospects in football. The 23 year old is a highly rated attacking midfielder who has impressed both for club and country in recent years earning him a big money move to Stamford Bridge. The young midfielder isn’t the biggest and will need time to adapt to English football, however, some of the best midfielder’s in the word ain’t the biggest, Xavi, Inesta and Modric to name just a few.

Making 203 appearances for his clubs in Germany, scoring 28 goals and creating 41.

4. Park Ji-Sung (From Manchester United to QPR, Undisclosed fee)

This transfer took me by surprise, I wouldn’t have thought that after 7 seasons, Park Ji-Sung would swap Old Trafford for Loftus Road. The South Korean was highly regarded at Old Trafford and featured in midfield in some big games, winning four Premier League titles, a couple of League cups and a Champions League winners medal to boot. This is a shrewd piece of business from Mark Hughes who has returned to his former club to take a player who is tried and tested and gives his all on the pitch, in the hope maybe that it’ll drive players such as Adel Taarabt and Cisse to do the same.

Park Ji Sung has scored 27 times in his United days, and for a team that just survived relegation last season, he is a great addition and will be a big hit at QPR.

5. Hugo Rodallega (Wigan to Fulham, Free Transfer)

The only way I could describe this deal, is when you go to a supermarket and find a stylish and proven striker in the bargain bin. With no disrespect to Fulham, another slight surprise that no bigger clubs didn’t come in for Rodallega considering he was available on a free transfer. The Colombian has shown great ability at a side fighting for relegation season after season, and at a better team, I think he will shine this coming season for Martin Jol.

The 26 year old has scored 24 goals in the Premier League and will get more goalscoring chances playing in a top-half of the table team such as Fulham.
