How long will it take Rangers to climb back into the SPL?

At last after what seems like an eternity and a summer of endless talk of newcos, sevcos, EBTs, etc a decision has been finally taken and Rangers have been granted membership of the SFA.

Even the biggest Rangers die hard simply has had to accept that their beloved club deserves its punishment as a result of the financial mismanagement of messrs Murray and Whyte who have tarnished the reputation of the Govan club.

Now you can argue till you are blue in the face about whether the newco should have been demoted to the First rather than the Third Division to ensure the financial security of some other SPL clubs who may be on the brink but following the 25-5 vote in the immediate aftermath Ally McCoist and his staff now have to focus on ensuring the team is prepared for matches in the lowest tier of the Scottish Football League.

So who will be standing in the way of Lee McCulloch and co in their attempt to take the first step back to the top?

Well before a League ball can be kicked in anger new Rangers will be in cup action, Ramsdens Cup action.

The tiny city of Brechin has not seen a week like it with visits from the Wall St Journal and Sky TV as they prepare for the privilege of welcoming the relaunch of Rangers FC.

And August 11 2012 will see Rangers play their first ever match outwith the top division of Scottish football with a visit to Balmoor, Peterhead.

The Blue Toon are managed by former Celtic man Jim Mcinally who can expect to receive a warm welcome by any of the travelling support but any Gers follow following north better remember to be on their best behaviour as a night in the notorious Peterhead prison is not to be recommended!

There have been many of the great world clubs who have played at Ibrox, from Real Madrid to Inter Milan, Bayern Munich to Manchester United but Saturday August 18 will see the mighty East Stirlingshire gracing their stuff down Govan way.

One week later an away day at the site of the most infamous defeat in Rangers history will see the wee Rangers of Berwick tackle Ally McCoists men so at least the dreams of many in that Rangers will play a league match in England will come true!

Elgin City will arrive in the big smoke on Saturday September 1 before the tiny border town of Annan lay out a welcome for the Light Blues.

The club with the best nickname in the country, the Gable Endies of Montrose will head for Ibrox before the Light Blues head for Forthbank and Stirling Albion.

And it will be just like the late 19th century all over again when the men from Govan and the amateurs of Queens Park clash again a week later. Back in the 1880’s Rangers and the spiders battled it out to see who would establish themselves as the dominant club in the country but now in 2012 they will be jousting for three points in the Irn Bru Third Division.

Changed days indeed!

Self confessed Celtic man Jim Duffy will lead his Clyde troops into battle on October 27 against the Teddy Bears before the fixtures are reversed with the Rangers support facing trips to the delights of Ochilview, Links Park and Hampden of course.

So there we have it Rangers in the Third, it may not be what they are used to but at least they can take comfort there will be no more lunch time Sunday kick offs or their like for the time being as its back to 3pm on a Saturday for their football fix.

And if it all goes to plan for McCoist’s men August 2015 will see the return of Govans finest to the SPL in all liklehood attempting to wrestle back the throne from their old friends in the East End.

Sevco do not have a licence to play yet. It was a temporary conditional one they got for the Brechin match only. Given the reports of their fans misbehaviour at Brechin, as well as the comments made by both Green and McMoist, I feel the authorities, and not only the football ones, will be taking steps to consider action of a further disciplinary nature against the team that wants to be called Rangers but in reality and in law is not allowed to use that name.

There is a lot to play out – this story is far from over, we are not even half way through this pantomime yet.! The next installment is when the BDO Liquidator takes over on Wednesday 1st August. That’s when the transfer of the assets that took place in June is likely to be called into question. The first question to be asked by the liquidator is was the assets sold for proper value? If not it is probably a fraud on the creditors and the sale can be overturned by the liquidator. Considering Green only paid 5.5 million, and 2.8 million of that went to Duff & Phelps to pay their fees, then Green paid only 2.7 million for all Rangers assets. Once the CRV was rejected, it was Duff & Phelps responsibility to hand over the assets to the liquidator, who’s job is to get as much money as possible from the assets to pay the creditors. If Duff & Phelps had done this they knew they would have been in the queue along with the other creditors, so it was in their interest to make a quick sale, even though it was completely fraudulent sale. Green will be repaid 2.7 million and the assets will go on the open market. It will be up to Green to get back the 2.8 million they paid to Duff & Phelps. There are many true Rangers people waiting in the wings, willing to pay a hell of a lot more than Greens 2.7 million. For instance, if anyone offers the liquidator something like 10 million for the assets, or even 5 million, how can the liquidator refuse? It is their job to try to recoup as much money as possible for the creditors. As tax payers we should be demanding Green and his shady bunch of get rich quick crew are not allowed to get away with this robbery.

August 2015? They have to be joking! As things stand there is no way on this earth that they could find themselves in the SPL by that date, the only way for them to reach top flight football is for the league to be re-structured, thereby giving them a back door route, even then it will not happen, I honestly think that Greene is angling for the Newco to be skelped out of football full time, (which would be no bad thing)a shame for the minoroty of genuine fans but hey-ho.
As Thai Tim says, The Liquidator opens his jotters this morning and then the fun begins in earnest, a good get out for Fat Sally as he wouldn´t have stayed anyway, so much for his “we dont do walking away” remark which kind of fell on an empty dressing room to the mirth of many.
Aye, go for it Sevco 12, show the rest of us how it´s done, ya mugs!
