Are Arsenal to blame for RVP’s contract faux-pas?

Robin Van Persie's second yellow card for "kicking the ball out of play" changed the tide of the gameSo… the debate is finally over as Robin Van Persie has posted a statement confirming that he will not be renewing his contract with Arsenal. The statement reads:

“I personally have had a great season but my goal has been to win trophies with the team and to bring the club back to its glory days.  Out of my huge respect for Mr Wenger, the players and the fans I don’t want to go into any details, but unfortunately in this meeting it has again become clear to me that we in many aspects disagree on the way Arsenal FC should move forward.”

“I’ve thought long and hard about this and I’ve decided not to extend my contract. You guys, the fans, have of course the right to disagree with my view and decision and I will always respect your opinion”

So the decision has finally been allowed to come to light.  It’s not really as much of a shock as I thought it would be, obviously it’s a bit sad that our best player is leaving but we can’t really blame him for this.

It’s difficult to know who to blame for this situation. Do we take the words in the statement at face value, or do we attempt to read between the lines. Can any of us take anymore heartbreak? He does not agree with Arsenal philosophy anymore and not many of us fans do either. We have respect that if he doesn’t believe in us anymore then we can’t force him to stay. He has had a great year at Arsenal and he wants to win so he needs to go.

As for Arsenal I think the board have messed up big time, team ambition should be what a club should strive to and we just don’t seem to have as much as we use to.  Will Wenger and co sell Van Persie for a premium or make him play it out and he will go on a free.  If they are about the money then they will sell. I just really hope he chooses a club abroad and not Man City as that would be awful.

I’d like to thank Van Persie… what a phenomenal player he is.  He has given us some great football to watch and has scored a fair few cracking goals over the years. Thanks for the time and I wish you all the best… (providing you don’t go City).

Talk about blinded by the last 12 months.

Before last summer, where he hadn’t played more than an average of 15 games a year, would you have offered him 100k a week? hell no. One good season and he wants out? chuff off you traitor, we may well have won silverware had one of our best players been available the whole season. He may well only play 20 games next season, so he’s not worth it.

He will go to City because money is the issue here. All this talk about ambition and trophies is crap. The day an Arsenal player will take a pay cut to join a trophy-winning team then I will listen to the ambition talk. Arteta took one to join Arsenal and play CL football. Now that’s ambition. The man can go anywhere he fancies. He is a classless ingrate. And so is his greedy agent. I feel so pissed off with these mercenary players who will one day like they can beat anybody only to fall like a pack of cards the next day to a third-rate team and then talk of ambition and lack of it.
Arsenal will rise up from this crisis even stronger.
    Gunners for ever!

And do you really think Robin wrote that crap himself? And what a coincidence, the letter from the russian company following…
I am from Holland, and liked Robin van Persie, but it’s all over now, also after the way he played for Holland during the EK.
    Just another money-grabber.
He would have been a real hero if he had followed the way Bergkamp behaved.

The faster he goes the better.
No One I Repeat One One Is Bigger Than The Club!
With age ….. there is no guarantee he will be fit to play all the games!
Remember RVP was on the medics bemch for a lengthy period!

Interesting Niki how you say most of the fans feel that the board have messed things up but EVERY comment here puts the blame on Robin where it should be…

maybe you should read between the lines and see the inherent problems that exist in the ego’s of modern footballers and the unsustainable money being thrown around by oil tycoons and their toy teams…

Arsenal will endure. I support Arsenal because they play great football, have a brilliant manager and run a sensible business. If Arsenal become the abortion that is chelsea/man city/PSG i will go and support Dortmund in the bundesliga and be finally done withe the EPL and its enormous debt…BUT i am very confident in this NOT happening and that is WHY I LOVE THE GUNNERS!
