9 out of every 10 football rumours must be taken with a pinch of salt. With many journalists looking for a headline-grabber, a story to turn heads, plenty stories turn out to be false. The Lucas Moura to Manchester story seems to have gathered pace in furious fashion and with reports that Sir Alex has sent his brother and chief scout to Brazil to meet Sao Paulo representatives, a move for the Brazilian wonder kid is on the cards and would be major coup for the former champions of England. At the start of the last season, it was United, not City who arguably were playing the most eye catching football, with their free-flowing, one touch passing football enthralling fans in a manner that had not happened since the days of Ronaldo and Tevez. What made it more remarkable is that it was two academy graduates that were majorly influential in this new style of play, Danny Welbeck and Tom Cleverley. Two players who are mobile, nimble, and intelligent and can play in number of positions, which meant they could interchange with Rooney, Nani and Young at any point. Lucas is no different.

The Brazilian can operate in his favoured number 10 position off the striker but is also just as suited to coming off from the wing. His pace is suited to the club’s high tempo style of football, and the young lad can walk past defenders in his sleep. One flaw aimed at Lucas is his in ability to look at up and pick and a pass at appropriate times. A certain Mr Ronaldo was also similar to Lucas when he arrived at Old Trafford, but it was not long before Sir Alex moulded him into the perfect player and valuable team member.Lucas could very well take the same path as Ronaldo, and at 19, can only get better.

Manchester United’s one major weakness that has been on-going for a few years, is their inability to play through teams, and although wing play has and always will be a major par of the club it is sometimes a little too predictable and one dimensional. With the acquisition of Kagawa all done and dusted a move for Lucas would add further class and guile to United’s midfield. It would create a strong squad, one to rival that of the 2007/2008 era.
