Will Eden Hazard meet the expectations of the Premier League?

|

Hazard is picky about his game time, his preferred number 10 role and jersey number, saying, “I have always dreamed of playing the number 10 role, and wearing that number on my back, and you can see what the difference it makes from how many goals I have scored and set up for others. That will be a consideration when I decide on my club. Where I will play will influence my thinking of who I should join.” Frank Lampard has declared his excitement at Hazard’s signing and is looking forward to play against him on the weekend during England’s friendly against Belgium.

The young attacking player has 27 caps for his country for which he will feature on Saturday.  For Lille, the young starlet appeared in 44 games in which he made 17 assists and scored 20 goals last season. The club also holds him in its history for the vital part he played in the 2010-11 season, bringing the League One title to Lille who had not won it since 1954. Hazard loves breaking records, and he did so quite a few times by becoming the first foreign player to win the French League’s Young Player of the Year in back-to-back seasons. Yet another one for the books, the Belgian is currently the youngest goalscorer in Lille’s history, scoring aged only 17.

Besides the achievements and brilliance, the talented young player has also had some bad days with his emotions. One particular incident springs to mind where he was filmed eating a burger outside the stadium, when his teammates were still playing in a game he had just been substituted from. Somehow, Hazard has never been tagged an actor on field or a diver, but a fighter and one who loves to get on with the game. Often, Hazard’s style of play has been compared to that of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Support from fellow Belgian, Thomas Vermaelen also adds to the hype surrounding his impact on the league. Far too many hints on the quality expected from the new Premier League recruit. Definitely a player to watch this coming weekend against England, not to mention the Euros and luckily for Premier League fans… we’ll have him fully fit and all to ourselves when the new season kicks off. Until then, we could hear your thoughts about Mr. Hazard!

Everyone said that Gervinho was as good as Hazard when they played together for Lille. I would suggest that it will take at least a season before Hazard adapts to the EPL. During which time every Chelski player will be whining about what a waste of money he was
