The biggest problem facing Rangers?

“The truth is that our finest moments are most likely to occur when we are feeling deeply uncomfortable, unhappy, or unfulfilled. For it is only in such moments, propelled by our discomfort, that we are likely to step out of our ruts and start searching for different ways or truer answers.” M. Scott Peck

As one door closes shut, another one opens up. It seems the door to the SPL has been well and truly slammed shut in the face of Rangers. The Ibrox club and its supporters need not wait for the jurors to return with their decision on the 4th of July; the verdict is already in, Rangers are guilty.

The words of M. Scott Peck, the American psychiatrist and author, whose bestselling book The Road less Travelled was published in 1978, must be ringing true for many Rangers fans.  Peck’s book begins with the profound truth that “Life is difficult”.

The fall of Rangers is not only a whodunit; it is also a very human story.  For me, Rangers is my hero. Yes Rangers are not perfect, although they have done many good things to help others, the Erskine appeal to name but one, people need to remember that football clubs are made up of people, and people are flawed. There will always be an unwillingness to accept the complexity of human nature. We are not perfect, and that is not tolerable in our heroes.

Rangers have some difficult decisions to make. Take responsibility for what has happened over the years at the club and make things right. It is only by accepting the fact that we have problems that we can we solve them. An attitude of ‘It’s not my problem!’ will lead us nowhere. As the saying goes, “If you are not part of the solution, then you are part of the problem”.

Perhaps the biggest problem facing Rangers is no one knew just how much hatred the fans of other clubs had for Rangers. This for me has been the most difficult problem to wrestle with. How did it get so bad? Why do these fans feel this way? The answer to these problems may bring some hurtful truths. Yet, it is only in facing our problems that Rangers in crisis has its meaning.

It seems that all perspective has been lost by the fans of the other SPL clubs and let’s hope that now the criminal investigation into what happened at Ibrox is beginning, the bloodlust will stop. Let’s hope that those responsible for the events unfolding at Ibrox see the inside of a court room, and a sense of perspective may be brought back to the Rangers crisis.

There is now a commitment and spirit that has been lacking in recent times amongst the support. If any good has come out of this it is that there is now a true sense of community to being a Ranger. That community feels safe and gives those who belong there a chance to share their vulnerability, heal themselves and express who they truly are.

What a load of piss,Rangers have not been found guilty,Rangers are not applying to enter the SPL ,its is a Newco club.
The rules clearly state, any Newco will apply to enter the lowest division after the vacancy occurs.
It does not say,we will change all the rules so a Newco can drop into div 1,it does not say THE SFA. will threatain all other clubs if they dont agree, they dont say we will allow SKY to televise games thus allowing the Newco to get cash.
If the rules and leagues are to be improved 2013/2014/then the newco should start from div 3.
This gives all the clubs a full season to agree/disagree with changes, not agree/disagree within 4 weeks and being threataned.
Would this happen if it was any other team outwith the old firm/I doubt it.
The SPL may suffer but the SFL3/2/1/ will gain and no doubt the Newco will be back in year 4.
People like J Brown and the SFA BOARD are the people who are destroying football with the treats.
If you were to put a vote to pick a new SFA/SPL board to the supporters,I doubt if many on the boards would be re-elected.

The perspective has not been lost by fans of other clubs it is by the vast majority of Rangers fans. You may have been hated by the majority prior to all this, I do not know, but the attitude of those associated with your club, which includes your fans, has been ridiculous. Try showing some humility, do not delude yourselves that the sporting integrity argument is just being used as an excuse to put the boot in, infact show that you believe in sporting integrity and stop acting as if you are the victims of the rest of the Scottish football world ganging up on you. You are the victims of having had very dodgy owners, your ire should be turned on them and you should be looking to the rest of the scottish football community for help and support in your hour of need. They are after all the ones who hold your future in their hands. You as a collective (club and fans) have not shown the neccessary intelligence and humility to understand these basic truths.

Not a truer word said CPCF fan.

I don t know what CP stands for but you are typical in your narrow minded bitter take in all this. The truth of the matter is Whyte caused the administration which should not have happened. Duff and Phelps should have secured the CVA , Rangers would still be in the SPL complete with the 25 mill of talent that has now left for zero, and the majority of the current SPL teams would not be facing likely part time football in the near future should rangers not return in a year. Make no bones about rangers fans have more reason than ever to hate all of you as much and that will manifest itself when we return because every one of the clubs that voted against us will never see rangers fans inside their ground again and none will be welcome at ibrox. Remember Rangers currently account for 30 % of the SPL income and without that and SKY you will be doomed and deservedly so. First you persecute us , then you fight us , then you laugh at us, then WE WIN

  • A very tought provoking piece, not just for these trying times but maybe for the future when better times prevail.

To suggest that fans need to have “shown the neccessary intelligence and humility to understand these basic truths.” shows quite clearly that your opinion is tainted by your own sordid desire to punish the said fans of a club that no longer exists.
How is it that fans of any club, can be held responsible for the actions of a previous club owner, when they had no knowledge of practices going on, or powers to act?
Your opinion is pure bigotry and hatred dressed up under another guise.

    • Merlyn says:

Therein lies the problem, any honest direct assessment of the plight of Rangers FC can only be seen by some rangers fans as bigotry and hatred. Firstly bigotry was what rangers for many years was built on and secondly, of course the fans of rangers are being punished but it is by the previous owners for their injustice and abuse and illegal wrong doing.

The future of the new rangers is in the hands of the other clubs within the league structure and I am sure the same due process would now be taking place whether it was Celtic, St Mirren or Peterhead. The new club should start in Division 3 and I hope via promotions be in the SPL very soon.

    • CPFC fan says:

I am a Crystal Palace fan (our own much loved manager is a Rangers fan), I hate bigotry and I have no reason to hate Rangers. So no dressing up up my views as something else.

I just think it is wrong to attack the very people who are not directly responsible for Rangers current plight and plainly very stupid when they are the ones who will decide your future.
