How will the Liverpool & Aston Villa shake-ups affect the Premier League?

The current high number of managerial changes taking place in the Premier League has the potential to shake up the league but how will it affect the clubs involved?

Brendan Rodgers’ appointment replacing Kenny Dalglish confirms Liverpool’s commitment to high quality passing football and his young age means everything is in place for him to be Liverpool manager for many years to come. This is further highlighted by the expectation that Gylfi Sigurdsson (arguably one of the best players in the second half of the 11-12 season) will choose Liverpool over Swansea meaning Sigurdsson feels the connection between him and Rodgers is special.  However, Rodgers has only been proven at Swansea as he has promoted a group of players that were already together at the club after failing at two well established clubs in Watford and Reading. I feel if Rodgers can get the fans to cheer rather than boo the team throughout this first season, which may be fairly un-glamorous, and then Rodgers is likely to have a long and successful stay at Anfield.

Rodgers move to Liverpool means that the job at Swansea is also available but names such as Graeme Jones and Dennis Bergkamp have been linked with this job meaning Swansea seem unlikely to aim for a manager that has proven Premier League experience. However, these men are very much understood to be purist’s in the way that Rodgers is as they believe in the passing style of football that Swansea became famous for. Swansea require a manager that will be able to hold the current group of players and keep them confident enough to continue playing in the same way in order to sustain Premier League football.

Paul Lambert to Aston Villa is a move that is an excellent acquisition by Aston Villa who require a regeneration after the decline of last season that has caused Villa fans to be unsettled with the future of the club. Lambert has worked miracles with Norwich and their largely British squad. The squad at Villa is similarly British and with the extra money available at Villa, Lambert can very quickly turn them into a club regularly competing for European spots again.

This left a space at Norwich that currently looks likely to be filled by a man who I consider to be one of the best managers in the country, Chris Hughton, who was incorrectly sacked by Newcastle and has since carried a bankrupt and dejected Birmingham into the Championship Play-Off. With Grant Holt likely to leave, Norwich will be many people’s favourites to go down this season but if Hughton does become the manager then I believe he will keep them up and therefore add to his impressive CV.

As well as these, the job at West Brom is now available. Many names such as Claudio Ranieri have been linked with the job but I feel West Brom would be better appointing a young, hungry manager such as Eddie Howe to ensure they continue to sustain the improvements they have made over the previous 24 months.

Finally, even after winning the FA Cup and Champions League, it appears Roberto Di Matteo is unlikely to get the Chelsea job and with the imminent arrivals of Eden Hazard and Hulk this may be the correct decision as a strong, world renowned manager may be required to handle these personalities.

With a few changes already made and many still to be made before the start of the season, the Premier League next season promises to look very different to how the previous Premier League did and I believe there is potential for a drastic effect to some of the clubs involved in this large managerial shake up.
