It’s difficult to find any genuine Liverpool fan who . Finishing 8th in the Premier League simply isn’t good enough (neither is finishing underneath Merseyside rivals Everton) and it’s clear that a lot of work needs to be done over the summer if Liverpool are to find themselves in a position to genuinely compete over the course of next season. Fans won’t be content with cup runs for much longer if the Reds can’t back up this form in the League.

With that in mind it wouldn’t surprise me if the Reds had already begun to line-up their transfer targets.

Which brings me to the Daily Mirror’s story concerning Sochaux midfielder Ryad Boudebouz. Great name, great player. Best of all, he’s interested in a move to Anfield. Speaking after helping his International side Algeria to a 3-0 victory over Niger last Saturday, he told reporters: “Certainly, my agent is in talks with some clubs, particularly in France, but there is still nothing concrete.

“There is also Liverpool, who have initiated discussions with my agent, but at the risk of repeating myself, everything is in the discussion stage, no more.”

With Sochaux finishing just four points clear of the Ligue 1 relegation zone, Boudebouz is believed to be keen to take a step forward in his career. The Algerian has made an impressive 130 appearances for the Ligue 1 side despite his tender age, though the time may be right for him to take a move elsewhere.

The talented youngster is well thought of in France thanks to his confidence on the ball, his tricky feet and his mean dribbling ability. Liverpool need to start looking at players who are more direct – who aren’t afraid to take on defenders and force the issue. Boudebouz certainly ticks this box.

And at 22-years-old he’s only likely to get better. He’s extremely versatile and has been deployed as a central midfielder, a winger (on either flank) and just behind the striker during his time in France. With the likes of Stewart Downing and Jordan Henderson all too often flattering to deceive last season – it doesn’t surprise me that Liverpool are weighing up their options.

Though Boudebouz may not be the marquee signing that many Reds fans are expecting he may well make for an astute signing. That’s if the young Algerian isn’t talking out of his rear.

What’s your take? Would Boudebouz be a good signing for Liverpool?

Would be a smart buy for Rodgers new team. They need a player in mid-field with his skills.
