Keeping Rangers out: Has the SPL finally earned some perspective?

No pun intended, but has the penny finally dropped for the Motherwell board who issued a statement saying that a no vote to Rangers retaining their place in the SPL would send Motherwell in the direction of administration yet again?  The Steelmen are no strangers to administration and have admitted that they would have no other way of finding the money provided by Rangers and their supporters. The directors said: “It is clear that, if we are unable to replace significant amounts of income lost under either scenario, the club could be facing an insolvency event.”

Facing a backlash from fans if the Motherwell board votes for Rangers, and the loss of television and gate income if they vote against, the Fir Park club’s board predicted that they could end up in administration. Under new rules recently agreed by the SPL, Motherwell would then lose 21 points, a third of their total last season when they finished third.

Keeping the Rangers out, however, would cost an estimated £915,000 through the loss of £600,000 from the SPL’s television and other avenues, and £315,000 in lost gate money and hospitality income. The Motherwell board added that to make up the shortfall, they would be looking to members, shareholders and supporters to pay increased prices. So it seems that the Motherwell fans have to pay the price for sporting integrity. The first casualty of the crisis at Rangers was perspective.

Clearly the Motherwell fans have lost all sense of perspective, Celtic might be able to take the hit, Motherwell will not. There was also more financial bad news as Hibernian have reported a loss of £900,000 for the year ending July 2011, the first time in seven years they have failed to end a year in profit.

With the club moving to a fans’ ownership model, Motherwell’s board have sent out ballot forms to shareholders and Well Society members. “The current board of Motherwell FC are not the owners of the club but are the trustees of the majority shareholding as we transition towards a fan-ownership model through the successfully launched ‘Well Society.”

The question that has to be asked in Scotland is why so many of these other clubs fans, not just Motherwell, are willing to fall for the sporting integrity lie peddled by Celtic. For Motherwell fans to put Celtic’s sporting integrity lie before their club’s survival is an act of supreme folly. Celtic will drop Scottish Football like a hot potato if the right offer from England comes along and will not stay in a premier league without Rangers.

Peter Lawell, the Celtic Chief, has been pushing for Celtic to leave Scotland and enter the English leagues since he took control of the club. Where is the sporting integrity in a SFA board member, whose plans for his own club include ditching the Scottish game for the money-laden playing fields of England? History will tell us if the ‘Well Society backed a winner or a loser and for Motherwell Football Club, life or death lies in the hands of its own supporters. Let’s hope they vote wisely.

Motherwell forgot to mention the extra money for finishing higher up the league and European money.

Isn’t it amazing how followers of the old club that was Rangers FC(In Liquidation)find any excuse to blame somebody else for their own greed and financial folly. Motherwell FC will almost certainly lose money when there is no Rangers FC(In Liquidation)to play in the SPL, but ask yourself this question : Is this lack of money due to Celtic ? Is it due to Motherwell ? The clear answer of course is NO. It is 100% due to the afore mentioned Rangers FC(In Liquidation)themselves. No doubt ‘Cyberted’ wishes that Rangers FC(In Liquidation)should not be in any way responsible for their own actions, as Motherwell and all the other clubs who will vote you out will be. But unfortunately, it dosen’t work like that. You get what you deserve by your own actions. So if Motherwell lose money, so be it. They will have to cut their cloth to suit as we all will do. The “Celtic lie” that the SPL can survive without Rangers FC(In Liquidation) is a sound policy assuming we can all deal with our income accordingly, and (I may point out) as Rangers FC(In Liquidation)should have been doing since 1986. . . . Think about it.

As a non OF fan could you please explain/substantiate your claim about the loss of £915,000 TV money? we have a deal in place at the moment that will not change as a TV deal without the Tax dodgers was only negotiated this season BEFORE all the Cr@p hit the fan (begs the question what did the people at Sky and the admin of the SPL know prior to all this) – yes, it will be renegotiated some time but the loss you mention must assume NO TV deal. There will be a new deal to negotiate and will most likely be reduced BUT with the stronger position we other non OF clubs will be in we can negotiate a more fairer distribution of the TV money helping to offset your predicted losses. The only team that will really lose out of it will be the one OF team left in the league but they can offset this with their superior gate money and opportunity to qualify for the riches of the champions league – not a guarantee but they will have it in their own hands to achieve this.

More bile from those strutting bigots who every day for a century and more were always anxious to spread fairness and love all around our national game.
Be sure that the chickens have now galloped back to their own wee patch of terra firma to roost with great relish at the opportunity of enjoying the free-less-bigotted air than we,ve seen for many a year…….yet somehow, this deluded bunch of thugs, so fresh from threatening us with torchings and boycotts for having the sheer temerity NOT to tear up the rule book so that they, despite being riddled with self-inflicted wounds, can become teflon coated to the effects of their own greed and stupidity. Had those running that club seen fit to organise themselves in a fashion as befits any middle sized business in the country, none of this would have occurred, yet the fans of other clubs……tied to an institution that ALREADY accomodated them by such unfairness as receipt of an 11/1voting advantage accrues…yet the General Jardine led mob who raised the banner of hate against everyone else in the game, simply because their own foohardiness had to be paid…by them…rather than the rest of us.
It would be fantastic were they to use their time in the lower leagues to ruminate on just why the roof fell in on them, but I suspect that, if history is to teach us anything, few of us will harbour such pious hopes
