Have Liverpool made the right choice?

The majority of the Liverpool faithful were not surprised by the abrupt dismissal of manager, Kenny Dalglish. After a turbulent league campaign which saw them finish 8th and most notably below their fellow Merseysider’s Everton, for a club of Liverpool’s stature, this was obviously not good enough.  The few in favor of the Scotsman felt the club’s cup runs were sufficient enough for him to at least see out another season at Anfield, but for the American owners this wasn’t the case.

There’s room for the Liverpool legend to feel aggrieved though, having led his beloved club to League cup success and reaching the FA Cup final, in the past this would be construed as a successful season. But ultimately those coveted Champions League places are where the money is earned, and having spent a substantial amount on players last summer, it was seemingly European football or the door.

The search then began for Dalglish’s successor with ostensibly Roberto Martinez emerging as the frontrunner, but following lengthy discussions and an accumulation of air miles between the two parties, Fenway Sports Group, could not agree terms with the Spaniard. This subsequently led to the club renewing their interest in Swansea manager Brendan Rodgers, and having initially ruled out taking the managerial vacancy at Liverpool, extensive talks then took place in Miami, resulting in an appointment being made.

Following his move to Anfield, owners John W. Henry and Tom Werner insisted that Rodgers was their number one target, indicating Martinez was in fact, second choice. Rodgers later went on to say; ‘I promise to dedicate my life to fight for this club and defend the great principles of Liverpool Football Club on and off the field’.

So, what are we to expect from the 39-year-old?

If his achievements at Swansea are anything to go by, Liverpool fans have reason to be enthusiastic. Having inherited an exuberant free-flowing attacking team, Brendan Rodgers took over at Swansea, leading them to the play-offs and promotion to the Premier League. Many had tipped Rodgers’ side to finish bottom of the pile come May, but on the contrary, his side defied expectation to finish 11th, only 5 points behind Liverpool.

Whether or not he can replicate his dynamic football at Anfield remains to be seen. Liverpool is a big step up for such a young manager, and expectations are greater so it’s important that the fans and club get behind the former Reading manager and realize he needs to be given time to implicate his own brand of football.

But the newly appointment manager has wasted no time in ringing the changes with Dirk Kuyt being sold to Fenerbache with many expected to follow suit as part of a clear-out. Rodgers may also look to raid his former club to capture the likes of Gylfi Sigurdsson and Joe Allen who were instrumental in Swansea’s success last season. The Irishman has already made his intentions known regarding the players out on loan, suggesting their maybe a future for both Joe Cole and Alberto Aquilani under his regime.

Rodgers’ enthusiasm, energy, charisma and man management epitomize everything the British manager should be; his vibrant and youthful approach to football is a breath of fresh air for our league and under his guidance, Liverpool can become the force they once were.

The article bears no resemblance to the headline as there is no argument for or against his appointment. It is just an assortment of statements made from previous press releases.

If you are going to put an attention grabbing headline then please put something your article that is related.

Also Dirk activated a clause in his contract and had already decided to leave before the sacking of KD.

Oh yeah isnt Brendan Rogers Irish?

  • Chris says:

Agree, rank article by a wannabe journalist (good luck with your GCSEs). You can cruise newsnow and find dozens of identical articles without any opinion.

    Rodgers is Irish d1ckhead.

Bazza – I had no say in the headline of this particular article, it was originally ‘So after weeks of deliberation, Liverpool finally have their man’. But it was changed, don’t ask me why.

The nationality was my mistake and I do apologise, didn’t research that particular point sufficiently enough.

As for Chris, this article isn’t my strongest for sure, but I’ve had good feedback on previous, so it’s hardly rank is it. True I do want to me a Journalist, but isn’t ultimately experience i’m gaining? I have GCSE’s and A Levels for that matter, so cheers for that assonine comment.

If you actually read it, I express my opinion, that Rodgers should be given time, in order to provide for the club, read a little closer, articles are about fact prodomentnly, not just opinion. So move on.

Truly inspiring article here… I almost cried when I read it, few errors but who cares? everyone makes mistakes from time to time. Jealousy is a cruel thing. Keep up the good work, I look forward to reading an article about Kalou.
